Lakers are old as dirt and Rockets are youngest team in the league.

Imagine if we had won those OT games against Portland. We'd be 10-6 right now.

It reminds me of the year when Gary Payton and Karl Malone joined the Lakers. Replace Shaq by Howard and Horace Grant by Pau Gasol. Old guys that couldn't do it on their own, in this case Steve Nash, trying to win a championship before retiring. They didn't succeed.

I've been comparing them all season

I WILL enjoy it and flaunt it as much as I can, be it only for the first month of the season.

just look at the expectations of each franchise and tell me you aren't happy to see the Rockets come out even or even a half game on top of the Lakers.

all they do is make excuses about their coach, their roster, their chemistry.

look at what the Rockets are doing with their new roster, their chemistry (ignore the White situation) and the situation they are in with their coach...

I think we all just need to worry about the Rockets first and foremost. Last time I checked the Championship isn't won in December, and there are more than 2 teams in the NBA.

I really hope the Lakers are a bottomfeeder team and the Rockets end up being contenders, but I sure wouldn't put money on it in Vegas.

We are VERY fortunate to be at 8-8 with this team to be perfectly honest.

According to Basketball Reference, our strength of schedule rating to date has been 0.99... tough enough for it to rate as the 6th toughest schedule played in the NBA to date.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2013.html

To make things worse, it gets a LOT harder in December.

    December schedule

    4 - vs Lakers
    7 - @ Spurs
    8 - vs Dallas
    10 - vs Spurs
    12 - vs Washington
    14 - vs Boston
    16 - @ Toronto
    17 - @ Knicks
    19 - vs 76ers
    22 - vs Memphis
    25 - @ Bulls
    26 - @ Minn
    28 - @ Spurs
    29 - vs OKC
    31 - vs Atlanta

So, over the next 15 games we have 5 games against Championship contenders (Spurs/OKC/Memphis), 4 games against Playoff Contenders (Lakers, Minnesota, Atlanta, Knicks), 4 games against legitimate Playoff race teams (Boston, 76ers, Bulls, Dallas), and 2 games against weak teams (Washington and Toronto).

There are also 3 back to backs against Dallas (at home), the Knicks (on the road AND a back to back ... anyone smell Schedule Loss?) and against OKC (at home). And the Spurs on the road at the end of a 3 game road trip.

It would be shocking if the Rockets found a way to sneak out of the month with a .500+ record. I'm thinking that if we're *lucky* we come out of the month 8-7, more likely it's going to be 7-8 or 6-9 depending on whether we can steal a win against the Spurs and hold home against the bubble teams.

I'm thinking by January we'll be looking at 15-16, where the schedule doesn't get any easier as we a very hard traveling month in the East (3 road trips, one 4 in 5, with 4 back to backs).

In other words, don't be surprised if we're doing a late season push to get back into the standings.
