That douche Rick Kamla was whining on Gametime about how it was a classless act by the fans and they had no right to boo. You mad bro?

Yeah they do have a strong base.

9th in the league in attendance despite sucking for several years.

    This.

Warrior fans love their team. Oracle Arena is one of the loudest I've been to - much better scene than the Toyota Center aka "the morgue"

If Rockets fans pulled a move like that at Olajuwon's or Drexler's ceremony I'd truly be ashamed

Are these ceremonies done like before a game? Or after?

Or do they dedicate a day in which the team isn't playing for the ceremony? That's a packed house for a ceremony.

Simmons wrote a pretty interesting article on the comedy of errors that is the Warriors franchise.

    http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7714701/how-annoy-fan-base-60-easy-steps

A good read for everyone, but something I think every pro-tanker should really take in.

The Warriors are the definition of screwed up. The Clippers had McAdoo and have a solid team, New Jersey had Dr. J and Jason Kidd. The Cavs had Lebron and have Irving. Sacramento had that solid 2002 team and have a bright future. The Bucks have won a championship. The Raptors and Bobcats were recent expansions...

but the Warriors are extremely old (one of the original 6 if I'm not mistaken) and what do they have to show for any of it? Nothing. They stunk, they stink now, and they don't have much of a future.

but any other organization would have pulled themselves up by the bootstraps by now. It's a freaking bad organization. Bad organizations make bad draft picks, overpay free agents, and squander opportunities. This is not a lesson about the pitfalls of tanking. It's a lesson about bad management and bad ownership. I'm not gonna defend the booing during the celebration of an icon's legacy, like Chris Mullin, but fans ought to register their disgust every chance they get. Other than the power of the purse, it's an effective way for the higher-ups to get the message.

Exactly... or no, it would be more like if Olajuwon was having his jersey retired but had spent most of his career out of the playoffs and never out of the first round... and all of Houston was really sick of the franchise sucking for decades. You would still love you some Hakeem but you'd accept the opportunity to get after the owners.

The amount of talent that went through Golden State in the 90s was staggering. Seems like a case of management cutting off its nose to spite its face.

Reading Simmons's article, what is striking was the number of times they traded talented players on their team for draft picks and/or younger "upside" players, only to have them not pan out. Sometimes, it seems, letting your team grow together is not the worst idea.

In the 90s, if the Warriors could have just gotten out of their own way and kept their good players, they could have easily put together the following team:

    Tim Hardaway
    Latrell Sprewell
    Mitch Richmond
    Chris Mullin
    Sarunas Marciulionis
    Chris Webber
    Joe Smith
    Chris Gatling
    Tyrone Hill

That roster has the making of a perennial contender, and all of those guys had good long careers. A lot of talented teams get torn apart by injuries, but the Warriors were torn apart by idiocy and short-sightedness.

Crazy that they have the first ever (3 total for the franchise) NBA championship (back when it was the BAA). And really haven't accomplished anything in the past 35 years (4 second round appearances with 2 first round exits).

Funny thing is, their franchise has still accomplished more than the Clippers even if you don't count those 3 championships (as Clippers didn't exist for 2 of them).
