Didn't Morey just say yesterday Lin/Asik are not being traded? And that Dwight would love to play with them?

    A couple thoughts:

    1. Josh Smith isn't going anywhere for $11M. The market is just too hot right now. Too many teams are able and willing to throw $ around. Actual price tag will probably be close to $15M.

    2. Somebody mentioned comparing 30 minutes+ of Josh Smith to 13 mpg of Omer Asik because Howard played 35 mpg.

I get the larger point-- Asik will likely play less minutes than a full-time starter, but don't think this really is the right mathematical comparison. First, Howard is unlikely to play all 82 games-- if he does miss a chunk of games, it would be good to have Asik step into the starting role. Second, if Asik was on board, Howard will likely average less minutes per game, saving him for the playoffs and reducing injury risk. The team can even rest him Popovich-style.

In any case, I think what Morey was saying there wasn't that we wouldn't trade Asik for a PF upgrade at all, but that the PF upgrade would have to be the right guy. Asik as a part of the deal for Smith? Sure, that works. But I am guessing Morey was referring to some less than ideal PF offers that he'd received from other teams.

if Omer is on the roster with Dwight next season...Dwight isn't playing 35 mpg. He's playing about 30 and Omer is getting 18 minutes backing up Dwight plus possibly another 5 minutes or so playing alongside Dwight...especially against big teams like Memphis, etc.

Agree $11 million won't get Smith. (But $10 million would probably get Paul Millsap). But $15 million for Smith??? I don't think Morey will do that. I suspect around $13 million for Smith...that is if Morey really wants him.

    Once again....

If the Rox are moving out both Lin and Asik to bring in both Dwight and Smith or Dwight and some other free agent....

then you still have to consider sign and trade possibilities to stay over the cap. Lin/Asik/White and a sign-and-traded Garcia is a lot of outgoing salary that could be used to sign and trade for both guys along with possibly Greg Smith or Tim Ohlbrecht to get both buys on board and stay above the cap.

Staying above the cap while bringing in Dwight and ANOTHER free agent and moving out Lin/Asik gives us more flexibility moving forward than using cap space by outright signing Dwight.
