Currently the Rockets are averaging 9-29 from the three. That's 30% so far for the season. As a matter of fact, they lead the league in three point attempts per game with 29.
    Why so many threes??
They even jack them up for no reason. This is part of the reason why they lose big leads and sometimes games.

If they don't take 3s, defenses will pack the paint to stop penetration. You have to take 3s to spread the floor.

This was why Mad Max kept shooting 3s despite being a crappy 3pt shooter. The same with Rafer Alston and his bricklaying skills. Even the horrendous Ariza was asked to shoot 3s for the same reason. And it's why Jeremy Lin is now shooting 3s to the horror of all his fans here.

I really don't understand it either. It's like everyone is trying to be a young Ray Allen.

So we can only do 3s or dribble drive penetrations? There are way more ways to get a good shot.

Aside from Harden we don't have guys who can score down low or attack the basket. Parsons and Delfino are 3 point shooters.

We have a player on the bench who could be developed into one if they would play him more.

Thats why i say use the size you have on the bench. Jones and Aldrich are known for battling in the paint. They should play more.

It is widely known by basketball people that the best shots in the game are 3s and close to the basket shots. It's why low-post bigs and penetrating guards are so valuable. We have two penetrating guards and no low-post bigs. You do the math.

So this team wins when they are making their shots!?!?! Wow you must be a genius to notice that.

This should come as no surprise. I said before the season ever started we would lead the league in 3pt attempts. We have no real post up players, and now that we are a poor shooting 3pt team, our opponents want us to shoot 3pt shots. I'm really surprised we've won as many games as we have.

something is too wrong with our offense.

    we have really good players.

sampson is well know as defensive coach.

The problem with Houston is that they don't really have an inside presence or anyone besides Harden that can get to the basket. Lin can penetrate but lately has been settling for the 3 ball.

So, whenever teams pack their defense into the middle, the Rockets will just settle for the 3 ball, something that they been struggling at. Only James Harden has the ability to drive to the basket and score, and everyone else camps out at the 3 point line waiting for the kick.

The coaches have some big challenges ahead of them. They need to find more ways for this team to score. As good as their P&R may seem in practice, other teams can easily find ways to defend against it. Also, Morey still has a lot of work to be done because James Harden is not enough for this team to be successful. The Rockets either need another player that can penetrate the defense and create his own shot or a player that demands attention and respect in the paint.

    We're taking 29 3-point shots a game? Yikes.

    This.

If we have to spread the floor to give Harden and Lin room to penetrate.

They are not low post threats and you are not going to make the claim that they are.

What else do we have besides the good ol' 3 to spread the floor?

Any defense can sag off the 3 line to crowd the paint and all our non-3 scoring options would be completely denied.

    To be fair, we have:
PPat doing spot ups/some post moves
    Morris 3 line + post
    Asik PnR and Post
    Smith post

    Everyone else:
    Delfino on the 3 line
Parsons 3 line, slash and cut
Lin 3 line, slash and cut
Harden 3 line, slash and cut
TD 3 line, slash and cut

This team will live and die by the 3 until they prove that they can hit open 3s or make another trade for a big man. Then maybe other teams will start play a different defense, which will open up a lot more scoring options.

Its been the trend since last 2-3 years and still stopped. Most of its due it not having a big who can score in post and not having a wing who can penetrate. So how else you gonna get your points? Well we got Harden now, just need a big who can operate in the post.
