Nice. Now Fontana needs to be promoted. He's got an over .500% OBP after all.

Guessing this is in relation to Lyles & Keuchel being called up.

Astros County: Astros and Rockies complete that one trade

Jose Monzon is a 21-year-old outfielder from Aguas Negras, in Venezuela. He has spent the past 2 seasons in Greeneville. In 2012, he hit .214/.301/.282 with 2 home runs and 14 RBI, 14 walks, and 36 strikeouts in 45 games (134 plate appearances, 117 at-bats). Monzon was also successful on all 4 of his stolen base attempts last year.

He has a 200 babip. As was said earlier in this thread, the average Midwest babip is 302. He has been very unlucky.

Correa is a year younger than Buxton. Correa also has a babip 50 points below the league average as was stated earlier in this thread. Having an ops over 780 with a very good walk rate is very good under the circumstances and age relative to the league.

    Games already completed:

    Lancaster 5, Inland Empire 3

South Bend 4, Quad Cities 3; Carlos Correa was held out of the lineup after taking a pitch off his hand last night.

Furthermore, you do not get both of Ruiz and McCullers if you pick Buxton. If you think Correa is the best player, plus he costs over a million less than Buxton and allows you to sign two other high upside guys.............then you take Correa. It's not very hard to understand.

We can revisit Buxton vs. Correa in 10 years to know who is better.

Comparisons are going to happen just like Appel will be compared to Gray coming out. And yes McCullers and Ruiz are in the mix as well.

Correa over Bux was the right move 10 out of 10 times when you take Ruiz and Lance into account.

Greek: thanks for bringing the BABIP stat into play. I did not see it earlier in the thread, but that would make a lot of sense. Hopefully a fresh start after this injury will bring some luck to the River.

They probably would have still been able to get McCullers if they drafted Buxton. McCuller cost about 1.2 over-slot and they could have made that up through some combination of the allowed overage (over 500,000), any saving on Buxton, and below-slot deals on lower-round players. However, they definitely would have had to go slot or lower in the 4th instead of Ruiz.

    Wednesday Stories

    Dramatics in Corpus!

Oh look, a Lancaster day game.

Quad Cities lets one slip away.

    Recap

    Oklahoma City 6, Nashville 2

Excellent pitching performance as the Redhawks pitchers combined to throw a 3-hitter. Wes Musick allowed a run (on a solo homer) on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 over 6 innings. Science Guy threw 2 perfect innings, striking out 2. Jason Stoffel, in his AAA debut, allowed a run on a hit (not a homer) and walked 1.

Offensively, the OKC offense pounded out 13 hits. Everyone had at least one, with Trevor Crowe, Jake Elmore, Brett Wallace, and Andy Simunic having 2 apiece. A 4-run 3rd sent the Redhawks on their way. All 4 of those runs came off doubles. Che-Hsuan Lin kicked things off with an RBI double. Carlos Perez, in the lineup at catcher for his AAA debut, brought him home with a double. Perez would score on Jake Elmore's double, and Elmore would score on AAA Slayer's (Brett Wallace) double. They would tack on 2 more on a single from AAA Slayer, who scored on Jonathan Villar's double.

The Redhawks have taken the first two; they'll go for the series win at 7:05. Jordan Lyles was originally scheduled to start, but he's on his way to join the Astros. Asher Wojciechowski, anyone? Whoever gets the start will go against Zach Kroenke.

Corpus Christi 3, Midland 2 in 11 innings

Pretty quiet game; the scoring didn't get started until the 7th. Midland got on the board first with a sac fly, but Erik Castro scorched a double in the bottom half to tie the game at 1. A fight to the finish ensued.

Midland retook the lead in the 10th off a Jefry Marte groundout with 2 outs. But... Rene Garcia re-tied the game with 2 outs in the bottom half with a single that scored Erik Castro. Then after Andrew Robinson tossed a 1-2-3 top of the 11th...

...Domingo Santana walked to lead off the bottom half, then he stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on an error, as Beau Taylor's throw sailed into center field. Ben Orloff would proceed to send the Hooks faithful home happy by singling him home. The Wizard came on for Jonathan Meyer in the 5th and went 2-3, scoring on Castro's double in the 7th. Castro finished 2-3 with a run scored, and it looks like his bat is starting to get going. J.D. Martinez was 2-4 in a rehab start.

Nick Tropeano threw 4 scoreless, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 2. He was battling some control issues in this outing. Bobby Doran tagged in for 3 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits and fanning 2. Pat Urckfitz came on for 3, and he allowed a run on 4 hits and walked 2. Andrew Robinson got the win by pitching a 1-2-3 11th.

Asher Wojciechowski is on his way to Oklahoma City, so David Martinez may or may not be his own. He'll take on Sean Murphy at 7:05. The Hooks are giving out Dave Clark garden gnomes.

    Lancaster 5, Inland Empire 3

In a game that started at 11 AM Pacific, the Jethawks broke through late with 2 in the 7th and 8th to get the victory. As a result, they keep the 66ers at bay in the division.

Andrew Aplin went 2-3 with 3 RBI; he hit a single in the 3rd tied the game at 1, and another single in the 7th drove in 2 and gave Lancaster a 3-2 lead. Nolan Fontana went 1-4 with a walk and scored twice. Preston Tucker went 2-5 with a double to lead off the 8th, and he would score on Telvin Nash's double. That was Nash's only hit of the day. He also struck out twice, but he walked twice too. He would score immediately, as Chris Epps singled him home. M.P. Cokinos joined Tucker and Aplin in the multi-hit club, as he went 2-4 with a double.

Mike Foltynewicz went 4 innings and allowed a run on 6 hits, walked 2, and fanned 6. He also uncorked 2 wild pitches. Jonas Dufek struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 5th inning. Blair Walters got the win, although he was a bit shaky in his 2+ innings, as he gave up 2 on 5 hits (solo homer) and struck out 1. The homer was hit by a rehabbing Alberto Callaspo. Walters left runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 8th for Kenny Long, who proceeded to walk the first guy he faced.

However, he got out of that situation by punching out Ryan Jones and inducing a double play from Eric Stamets to end the inning. Long finished off the 66ers with a 1-2-3 9th, striking out Brian Hernandez to end it.

The series finale pits Brady Rodgers and Chris Devenski against Austin Wood at 7:05 Pacific.

South Bend 4, Quad Cities 3

The River Bandits were up 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th, but the Silver Hawks scored 4 unanswered to take the series opener. As I mentioned earlier, Carlos Correa was held out of the lineup. He's expected to be alright, but the Astros are monitoring the situation closely.

Everyone had at least one hit except for Ryan Dineen, who entered as a substitute. He didn't bat. Austin Elkins left the game, and Brian Blasik, who was at 3B in his season debut, moved to 2B for Dineen. Terrell Joyce, Roberto Peña, and Joe Sclafani each had 2 hits. The scoring came from a Jesse Wierzbicki sac fly in the 1st, a Terrell Joyce double in the 2nd (after Peña doubled to lead off the inning), and a Teoscar Hernandez single in the 4th.

Dan Minor allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and struck out 2 in 5 innings. Lance McCullers got the loss, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, walking 1 and fanning 1.

Mike Hauschild gets the ball in the middle game of the series. He'll take on Kyle Schepel at 7:05 Eastern. Don't know whether he'll have a partner, as Colton Cain has struggled mightily.

    Three Stars

    3.

    Kenny Long, P, Lancaster
    Save (2), 2 IP, BB, 2 K

Tightroping out of a bases-loaded and no outs situation has to be the one of the greatest feelings of relief for a pitcher. It's just Kenny Long being Kenny Long.

    2.

    Wes Musick, P, Oklahoma City
    W(2-0), 6 IP, 2 H (1 HR), ER, BB, 4 K

Musick stepped into Dallas Keuchel's spot and performed extremely well. However, he has been a serviceable starter in the past, so a performance like this isn't overly surprising.

    1.

    Andrew Aplin, CF, Lancaster
    2-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB, SB (3)

Aplin doesn't fit the profile of a typical #3 hitter. But, he's taken advantage of virtually every RBI opportunity that he's gotten. Aplin has also suffered from a low BABIP (.256, California League average: .322) during his stints in Lancaster. Once it normalizes, he should clear .300 easily.

    Honorable Mentions

Nick Tropeano, P, Corpus Christi: Fought some control issues, but all things considered, a nice outing for him. It's something we've been accustomed to.

Erik Castro, 1B, Corpus Christi: He's starting to get himself going after a really slow start. Guys who come off big seasons in Lancaster can't start off slow in Corpus.

Ben Orloff, 2B, Corpus Christi: The Wizard delivered a win late for the Hooks!

Mike Foltynewicz, P, Lancaster: Folty looks as if he's finding his form after a slow start. He's still battling his command a bit and looks a bit too hittable at times. But he's definitely holding his own in the Cali League. I think he may be in Corpus by the end of June.

Roberto Peña, C, Quad Cities: Hoping that his progress on offense is legit.

Jake Elmore, 2B, Oklahoma City: He is turning into quite the waiver-wire steal.

Eric Berger, P, Oklahoma City: Science Guy with his best outing since joining the organization.

    Goat

Good night for everyone, and the Rockets have me in such an awesome mood. So, no goats.

So then... Folty to AA! Seems kind of quick - I would have liked to see him continue to work on control issues. But then again, the extreme hitter's park in Lancaster might mess with some pitchers' heads.

I think Wojo was the first domino to fall. Foltynewicz could be David Martinez's new partner in his next turn in the rotation.

The injuries in OKC and that 3/5 of the rotation in Houston has been largely ineffective likely played major roles in the promotions.
