Polls have just closed. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0512/76037.html Surprisingly, NC is the only "southern" state without one of these. I voted AGAINST it.
Gay marriage opponents are fighting a losing battle. Kids are always more accepting of these types of things. As they get older and the older voters die off, support for gay rights will only continue to grow. The majority of Americans already support civil unions and a plurality support gay marriage. It's only a matter of time until gay marriage gains widespread majority support.
Isn't this the one that goes beyond no-gay-marriage but also bans civil unions and the like? One of the southern states had one of those, but I don't remember which state it was.
Legalizing it, no - but it's also never been on a statewide ballot, though it looks like it will be on the Maine ballot this year and potentially Ohio next year. Banning it has been defeated once, in Arizona in 2006: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-s...ited_States#Efforts_to_enable_same-sex_unions
Yup; a number of polls have shown that the bill would fail pretty easily if it were worded so people were aware it bans civil unions as well. Some law professors have also stated that the vague wording of the law could remove domestic violence protections and affect health insurance benefits and child custody. This one that is so extreme that one of the expert witnesses for the supporters of Prop 8 in California wrote an op-ed urging people to vote it down... http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/04/11/1992920/amendment-goes-too-far.html#storylink=cpy

Nobody in my high school was openly gay and if they were, there might have been some ugly responses by both other students and the community. Now, several kids in my daughter's 8th grade class are openly gay and two girls are even dating... none of the kids seem to care.
bigtexxx has the right of it. We're not likely to be at a loss for bigots in this country, or anywhere, in our lifetimes.
Yes, I believe that is the case in our proposed amendment. Not sure which state has it in effect. With 48 of 165 precincts reporting, the amendment to define marriage is still losing 52% to 48%. OOPS. The above results are for my county of residence. Statewide the amendment is winning 4 to 3.
Yes because kids realize that sexual preference is nobody's business. Its horrifyingly inhumane and irrational to hate someone for something that they cannot control, or considering it wrong to be gay. Its sadly just tradition that dictates this. Being taught your whole life that gay is wrong or being a fervent follower of Christ and blindly following the premise that gays are sinners is the root of this.
You don't have to bring religion into EVERYTHING. We get it, you hate religion. I hate fat chicks, you don't see me talking about em.
