Sure, but Noah is still their main cog. Asik isn't going to get lots of PT behind Noah, and they can't play alongside each other. The SG position is their weakest link. Lee would have brought them a notch higher.
I agree Kurt Thomas isn't a prototypical center, esp. at his age, but he did impress me some when Noah was out. I put him on my fantasy team after some injuries, and he had a string of really good games - >50% shooting, double digit scoring, >8 RPG, ~1 BPG, and ~1 SPG. Not a long-term solution, but I'm giving the veteran some credit.....
Not true. Asik and Noah have played alongside each other and played well, facilitated by the fact that Boozer has been out. The SG position is overwhelming fulfilled by the rotation of guards coming off the bench. In the offseason, they have money to sign a FA sg and still have their core and young players intact and under contract.
He has one good game and you are all over him? Look at his 20 games before that. Sure his rebounding is decent for 15-16 mins averaged but not that great...
From what I've seen from Asik, his entire offensive game involves a dunk shot. Compared to Asik, Chuck Hayes is an offensive force. Still you can't teach size. He is already a force on defense.
You just can't look at stats, have to watch him play. He,along with Gibson, will literally shut down the opposing team's penetration to the hoop. The points he got last night were nice but also consider he is a rookie playing behind Noah and Boozer. He just won't get the minutes he deserves until he can become a better offensive player...that day will come.
Not that great? His total REB% is 7th in the league. His offensive REB% is 4th in the league among players with more than 800 minutes this season. On top of that, he blocks 2.1 shots per game and plays great defense in the paint. He's had plenty of good games, especially in February and March. Many of us been saying he's a good player back when his name was being discussed in the C. Lee trade rumors. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/asikom01/gamelog/2011/
come on, the dude got 1 decent game, and you felt like you need to start a thread? Have you look at his # the past several games or his season avg? Who knows how he's gonna do when given starter minutes....
Keep in mind that Asik was just average level in Euroleague. There are a lot of very good centers in Euroleague and it is really odd that Morey refuses to even consider any of them.
oops, didnt see Antec's post, but im making the same point basically. Im not sayin Asik is a scrub, but overall production wise off the bench, lee's a tad > asik.
This. Unless there's a guy like Carl Landry available in the second round, Morey should use second round picks to stash away international 7 footers. Instead he picked Joey Dorsey over Asik and Deandre Jordan, and look where we are now...Using good players to try and trade for Asik to no avail...and then resorting to hoping our 5 million dollar 7 foot project pans out.
Ah yes, I remember him vividly...the 6'8" f/c who was a rookie in his mid 20s that was labeled as Ray Lewis with a basketball.
