GOPer resigns out of fear of Tea Partiers. http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsme...per_resigns_i_dont_want_to_take.php?ref=fpblg Local Arizona GOPer Resigns: 'I Don't Want To Take A Bullet' An Arizona Republican Party District Chairman resigned shortly after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and 18 others on Saturday. According to The Arizona Republic, Anthony Miller had been subject to verbal attacks and internet postings by apparent Tea Party members, and said he feared for his safety. "I wasn't going to resign but decided to quit after what happened Saturday," Miller told the Republic. "I love the Republican Party but I don't want to take a bullet for anyone." Miller, 43, had recently been re-elected for a second one-year term as Chairman of the Legislative District 20 Republicans. He was the first African-American to hold the position. According to the Republic, Miller worked for Sen. John McCain's re-election campaign last year, and came under pressure from conservatives who supported McCain's Tea Party-backed primary challenger, J.D. Hayworth. Miller said he'd been called "McCain's boy," and the Republic obtained emails circulated among party members calling him a "McCainiac with a penchant for violating the rules" and a "McCain hack." One detractor allegedly formed the shape of a gun with his hand and pointed it at Miller. Just a few hours after the shooting in Tucson, Miller sent an email to state Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen. "Today my wife of 20 yrs ask [sic] me do I think that my PCs [Precinct Committee members] will shoot at our home? So with this being said I am stepping down from LD20GOP Chairman...I will make a full statement on Monday," Miller wrote. Along with Miller, the newly-elected District Secretary Sophia Johnson, First Vice Chairman Roger Dickinson and former District spokesman Jeff Kolb also quit. "This singular focus on 'getting' Anthony [Miller] was one of the main reasons I chose to resign," Kolb said in an email obtained by the Republic. After November's election, Miller's opponents had made an issue out of Dickinson's residency, apparently saying he'd moved to the district too recently to serve as First Vice Chairman. http://www.businessinsider.com/gun-...ings-gabrielle-giffords-jared-loughner-2011-1 Bizarro world or just polar opposite reactions that people have? Person A says: "See? Tighter restrictions on guns would've made it harder for a crazy person to acquire one and kill a bunch of people." Person B says: "The 2nd amendment gives me my right to bear arms. If someone had a gun at Safeway that day, fewer would have died." I see both arguments. My opinion is of the former, however.
Its so funny how the media and some people are trying to make excuses for this nut job. Claiming that he was on prozac or on meds is all bullsh**. Why can't folks just call him what he is? A terrorist. This guy is a terrorist point blank, nothing other than so it crazy for some people to pull excuses for him mainly because he is white. If he was any other ethnicity people would be quick to call him and that entire race terrorists.
If another citizen had a gun at the safeway and tried using it in the crowd and chaos we likely would have had even more innocents wounded or killed. Thank goodness nobody did anything that foolish.
I'm not sure its that simple. "Terrorist" would imply he is trying affect some sort of political change through violent means and that he is part of some sort of movement. I don't think we can call his rambling beliefs to be representative of some sort of movement or the creation of his own currency and grammar political change.
I read the same article that Rimrocker posted and I think that the issue of gun control rather than political rhetoric might be the more important issue to come out of this tragedy. I think we need to look at strongly consider the ability of the mentally disturbed to get hold of firearms and also the availability of high capacity clips. Loughner was stopped when he had to reload and its possible that less people might've been killed and wounded if he only could've fired ten or 6 shots instead of 20.
how about affecting some sort of political change by assasinating thus removing a politician and a movement to remove politicians whose policies you don't agree with
Yes had he the extended clip not been allowed it's almost certain the impact of the shooting would have been less. I don't think we need to only look at one issue stemming from this, though. I believe we can look at more productive use of rhetoric as well as gun control.
He obviously didn't agree with her policies but I don't know if in his twisted mind he felt that would lead to another politician more amenable to his bizzarre positions.
which policies? do you know? i certainly don't. in fact, all we know is he got upset because he didn't like her answer to some bizarre question he asked at an event a few years ago.
