if you truly think in the hard of hearts this is what most conservative people are like, you are truly clueless.
rimrocker, you are generally one of the civil and reasonable "liberal" posters, but this is a good example of how the left seems to always argue from an "either you are left or you are evil" point of view. Batman Jones used to be the most fanatical proponent of this approach.
Whatever you may believe a conservative is, if it doesn't fit the description given by our politicians and the media(and rightfully mocked by rimrocker), then you are actually not a conservative. You are, in fact, a liberal. Remember, here in the great nation of US, we have only two choices. And if you diverge even a little from anything conservative, you are against them.
Abortions and homosexuality have something to do with you? They affect you personally? They interfere with your life? Are people coming and aborting your babies for you because it's legal? Do guys try to butt-sex you because homosexuality isn't against the law? Claiming that those private choices have jack-doodle to do with your life is absurd, and you know it. Stop butting into other people's business, like the socialist tax-mongers you claim to hate so much.
Key word there, "belief". Prove it, then we'll talk. [insert 23456789765432413567890796543524154658769758342716235236786975943 pages of typical, done-to-death abortion arguments about where life begins] Bottom line, if you don't want an abortion, you don't have to have one. If you don't want to have a homosexual marriage, then don't have one. They are choices. You can't, however, choose to be taxed or not taxed. That is the difference. One concerns you personally, the others don't.
Coming from the most blatant and unapologetic troll on the BBS, that is really, really, rich. You're the one who introduced gays and abortions into the thread, remember?
I haven't spoken to him in a while, but will raise the issue next time I do. He's been busy on a very important endeavor.
If you don't want to murder your 10 year old son, you don't have to. If you don't want to torture your dogs, you don't have too. Your argument blows.
I don't know what a "hard of hearts" is, but I will say that I don't believe most people who vote for conservatives think that way in everyday life, but for some reason, they support politicians who make those things a priority. Seems to me a lot of conservatives are very nice and gracious on the personal scale, but when it comes to macro questions, they go to a different place. Abortion is an odd one because it so personal, wrapped up in family experiences, ideas of sex and sexual roles, etc. Many people are conflicted on the subject and end up on what they perceive as the least worst side. In my case, it's based on the knowledge that abortions will happen regardless and I don't want the government making those kinds of decisions for people. I'd rather work towards making a society where the situations where women would consider an abortion are rare. Looking at both sides, I have no respect for the firebreathers on either end... they are fanatics. I can't get angry with someone who has genuinely looked at the issue and reached a different conclusion than mine. I can get angry with those who will not listen or consider other things beyond their perceived dogmatic truths on the matter.
My argument was that abortion and homosexuality do not affect you, unlike taxes, which are not voluntary. Does abortion or homosexuality have anything to do with you? No. Do taxes? Yes. This was not about justifying anything, it was about texxx's use of false equivalency. Fin.
Which is wrong because based on your beliefs it affects you just as much as monkey torture or honor killings.
