Avoiding a second recession equates to Obama's economic plan being successful? Oh how the mighty have fallen.

As for the tea party's plan; It would be to get rid of government programs/entitlements (reduce government spending) to reduce the deficit and cut taxes for all to boost the economy and thus generate revenue and thus further decrease the deficit. You may disagree with these ideas, but I was just explaining to you why the Tea Party purposefully get rid of a "sure thing" in Castle.

Damn, I missed tightening the social safety net.

I would respectfully submit that their plan smacks of eugenics, where the rich flourish and we create an immobile under class of 'world rate' wages. Lord knows I'm all for voluntary eugenics but to propose it as legislation, it's unaware at best, economic genocide possibly. It's like colonizing your own country.

The fear is what makes the gold bubble.

yeah we know that. but how?

I mean which programs are you going to get rid of? How are you going to reduce the deficit? How do you cut taxes and reduce the deficit at the same time?

By decreasing government spending greatly. As far as what programs/agencies, it depends who you ask. If you want the biggest bang for your buck, I would say get rid of the FDA and the whole drug war. That would save a pretty penny. Simplifying the tax code would allow the government to diminish the size of the IRS (thus saving money). I think those are two that Conservatives could convince Americans to go for.

Stop for a second and think of the implications of what would happen if what you just proposed came to pass.

Aside from the utter r****dation of abolishing the FDA, the FDA's annual budget is a whopping $3 billion last FY. Not only would that have almost, zero impact on the deficit, that's about the cost of 2 weeks deployment in Afghanistan.

People would decide for themselves what they put in their body.

For the first time in the history of the D&D, I'm speechless. I can't believe you actually think this way.

Not if they're not aware what is in the product which is the point of the FDA.

For example I like peanut butter:

King Nut Companies issued a total recall of peanut butter that it distributes Saturday amid fears of a salmonella outbreak that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said has infected 399 people in 42 states.

Ohio-based King Nut acknowledged in a statement that salmonella had been found in an open 5-pound tub of King Nut peanut butter.

"We are very sorry this happened," Martin Kanan, president of King Nut Companies, said in the statement. "We are taking immediate and voluntary action because the health and safety of those who use our products is always our highest priority."

King Nut peanut butter was identified as the source of an outbreak that may have contributed to one death in Minnesota, state public health officials said Friday.

I am all for legalizing and taxing say mar1juana, but the FDA provides an invaluable service. Go read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle and see what was in your food prior to the FDA.

Nope, I mean the FDA(Food Drug Administration). This is not an uncommon belief. There are even liberals who believe in abolishing the FDA. I am a little shocked you have never heard it suggested.

This is a function of the FDA but not the primary function. The FDA bans drugs and foods they deem harmful. They decide what you can and can't put in your body. I would be willing to compromise with you; If the FDA only existed as an information source of ingredients and then a citizen could decide on their own then I would be willing to accept that.

I have and it's ludicrous. Their annual budget is 3.2 Billion.

    http://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/ReportsManualsForms/Reports/BudgetReports/ucm153154.htm

    They employ 11,516 people.

    http://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/Transparency/Basics/ucm213161.htm

The national budget is 3,518 Billion. So let's eliminate 11,500 jobs, make our food and drugs as hazardous as the 1930s all to eliminate .09% of spending.

    Freaking brillant.

Again you aren't taking into account the ending of the drug war which would come with ending the FDA

Really? Cause I would think just cutting a quarter of our military budget we'd be able to fund every domestic program we have without touching anything else. A $150 billion a year is a lot better than $3.5. Don't you think?
