refinancing...go to Houston Federal Credit Union's website. I got a 2.99% deal on a used car (bought my car when my lease expired). Sent two friends and they have refinanced there as well.

Too bad there isn't a referral bonus

I got a dealer down from $19,200 to $16,500 by simply showing a competitive auction on Ebay (it was for a used car).

I just figured I was living within my means. It didn't matter how they did it as long as I paid a rate I had predetermined that I would be willing to pay for the set amount of time I wanted. They could screw themselves and cut their price or find a bank that would be willing to finance lower so the dealer would get more out of their cut.

Funny thing, as the salesman offered me a $350 monthly payment, he said that I have to work hard for the things I want. I wholeheartedly agreed and said I want a $250-275 payment and if he wanted the sale, it seemed that he would need to work a little harder. LOL!

Our last car purchase was awesome, because my wife (who I had never seen wheel and deal before) made that salesmen her b!t@h. She literally sat down in the chair and said: "Here's the deal: We have financing through our bank. This is the car we want, this is the amount we're willing to pay. American Idol starts in 45 minutes. You have until 7pm to close this deal."

I've never seen a salesman sweat so much in my life. He was furious by then end of the deal. But, in the end, I was in awe: we saved almost $10,000. She does the talking from now on. I just sit back and smile.

don't mean to thread hi jack, but are interest rates for car loans negotiable if you finance through your bank?

When I was looking for a used car two years ago, I went to a dealership looking for Honda Accord coupe. They had a 2004 model, with like 50k miles and they had it priced at 17500. Before I left, the manager came into the office wanting me to take it off his hands for 12k. At the end I didn't do it, because I was only looking for a 6000-7000 car.

My friend and I talked down the salesman from 23999 to 19500 on a used 2008 Honda Accord. Only had like 10k miles on it.

i have a hypothetical question. (im buying a infiniti g37 in about 3 months) but say i have my eye on a car and its asking price is 27000 what would be the range i could probably get knocked off of it about 2000-3000 about right?

i plan on going into the dealership with the loan already worked out.
