They still have 59 votes in the Senate, which is actually quite high by historical standards. If the Obama and the Democrats move right and start governing from the center, they can still get a lot done. But the hard-left agenda is road-kill after Massachusetts. It is time for BO and the Democrats to wake up and smell the coffee.
This is a really disingenuous post twhy. You know perfectly well why nothing could get passed. Never in the history of the republic has a party used the threat of the filibuster to the extent that republicans have this session. It's unprecedented.
In fairness, if you said no to Obama being a citizen, you probably should say yes to being impeached.
Except for the last one. Harry Reid was constantly using the threat of the filibuster when the Republicans controlled the Senate during the Bush Administration. How do you think the Democrats were able to block the Republicans proposals for reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? With a filibuster, that is how. The maximum possible absurdity threshold has been reached for the day with your post quoted above, and it is still not 9:00 AM here in Houston. This is nonsense of the purest and most undefiled kind.
I guess it is hard to be centrist when the opposing party keeps shifting their platform around to spite you, even if it means voting against their own ideals.
Only someone, under the threat of banishment and having to change their user ID to remain on this board would think that.
This post is addressed to the individual posting as clutchfans.net user MojoMan By constantly, do you mean, "only a fraction of the time"? Because otherwise here is a big hard long spike for you to try to explain away, bro: Oh, and mind you, this is through March of last year. Any guess on the way it looks now?
I'm BetterThanI, and I approve this message. Seriously, I do. I posted the original huge font rant in basso's thread, and I think it's just as annoying when left-wing posters do this as right-wing posters. All it does is generate inflammatory responses, and stir up more and more poo-flinging instead of actual debate and discussion.
Why? That's what all the polls show: http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/party-id.php <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.pollster.com/flashcharts/scripts/javascript/loess.js"></script><object width="450" height="346"><param name="chart" value="http://www.pollster.com/flashcharts/flash/swfs/chart.swf?xml=http://www.pollster.com/flashcharts/content/xml/USPartyID.xml&choices=independent,Democrat,Republican&phone=&ivr=&internet=&mail=&smoothing=&from_date=&to_date=&min_pct=&max_pct=&grid=&points=&trends=&lines=&colors=independent-1B8F3E,Democrat-2247AF,Republican-BF0014&e=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="false"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.pollster.com/flashcharts/flash/swfs/chart.swf?xml=http://www.pollster.com/flashcharts/content/xml/USPartyID.xml&choices=independent,Democrat,Republican&phone=&ivr=&internet=&mail=&smoothing=&from_date=&to_date=&min_pct=&max_pct=&grid=&points=&trends=&lines=&colors=independent-1B8F3E,Democrat-2247AF,Republican-BF0014&e=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="false" allowScriptAccess="always" width="450" height="346"></embed></object> Perhaps you're just not familiar with polling or how unpopular the GOP is.
The Republicans were tricking the Democrats to vote like Republicans (sneaky)? Or because the Democrats couldn't agree on their own legislation?
Methodology DKOS REPUBLICAN POLL 2010 The Daily Kos Republican Poll was conducted by Research 2000 from January 20 through January 31, 2010. A total of 2003 self identified Republicans were interviewed nationally by telephone. Those interviewed were selected by the random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers, nationally. The margin for error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is no more than plus or minus 2% percentage points. This means that there is a 95 percent probability that the "true" figure would fall within that range if the entire self identified Republican population were sampled. The margin for error is higher for any demographic subgroup, such as for gender or region. The complete poll has some really funny bits in it: http://www.dailykos.com/statepoll/2010/1/31/US/437 I was once a Republican precinct chairman, btw. I may have changed a lot in my outlook, but the tent moved a lot further than I did. Even if I was still the 21 year-old me, I wouldn't be able to relate to these people today. EDIT: The Democratic party has also moved right. It's hard to imagine that those guys once touted people like McGovern, Mondale and Dukakis as their flag bearers...guys who were much more Left than Clinton or Obama. I think the tea party outrage at Obama is cringe-worthy.
This poll shows that a majority of Republicans believe Obama is or might be a socialist, is or might be a racist that hates white people, does or might want the terrorists to win and isn't or might not be a citizen. It is an objective fact that people who hold the above views are ****ing idiots. I'm just reporting the news, dude.
Accept that you are misstating the facts. The only claim up there that has a majority of self-identified Republicans in the DailyKos survey responding yes is whether Obama is a Socialist. All of the other questions don't have a majority, or even close to one. And the socialist question isn't conclusive, do they think he's actually a member of the socialist party? Probably not. Do they think he has extreme tendencies that make him a de facto Socialist? That's more arguable. If you are going to misstate the facts I heard Fox News is looking for liberal news anchors.
