exactly. They were supposed to crush the raiders, and they did. Texans of the past would probably have made it a much closer game. What we learned? Our linebackers are pretty dang good. We may have got lucky with Pollard. Moats didn't look half bad Where was Chris Brown? benched after the fumble last week?
Brown was apparently out with flu like symptoms. It was nice to see Pollard lay the wood on some folks. But him and the Texans have a HUGE test vs the Cards next week.
Texans of the past? By past, do you mean a week ago? He had the flu yesterday. I don't think he even dressed for the game. EDIT: You guys are quick.
To be fair, Moon won 5 Grey Cups, and I think that was a big part of his Hall of Fame resume. It is the "Pro Football HOF", so accomplishments in leagues other than the NFL are considered.
My take on... Matt Schaub: He's a pretty good QB. My two primary complaints about him are that he's fragile (I'd like for him to play all games this year) and he has a tendency to take too long to get rid of the ball (reminds me of Carr, though not as bad as Carr). I don't feel he's the reason we've lost two games, though. Gary Kubiak: I think he's a mediocre coach. He's improved our team since the Dom Capers days, but I don't think he's got championship blood in him. It's taking him too long to develop and I think the fiarthest he'll take our team is MAYBE the playoffs. Texans defense: It sucks. Yeah, it was great against the Raiders (as it should have been), and for that I'm thankful. But we need to have the same results against teams that have a strong offense. Texans D (or lack thereof) is the reason we've lost two games. If you consistently let your opponents score 30+ points, you aren't going to win many games in the NFL. This season: Honestly, we're about 4 blown-defensive-plays away from being 4-0 this season. If we can improve our running game and overall defense, we're gonna be looking good. Unfortunately, Colts are 4-0 so far. We've gotta win a lot of games and hope for them to drop a few.
I pretty much agree. He does hold the ball a little long at times and takes sacks when they weren't necessary. That said, I think he's pretty close to being in the top echelon of qb's in this league. A good, healthy, full season should see him post 4,000+ yds with over 20 tds. I have a sneaking suspicion that you're right on this one. He's definitely better that what we had, but I'm not sold that he's the right guy to go all the way. At least, not yet. Let's revisit this after this next game. I'd like to see if they learned something and can stop a real offense like Arizona's. If they can, the rest of the season could be very fun. Disagree here. They were not going to win the Jets game. That game was lost from before the game in the horrible preparation the Texans and their coaching staff put into it. Could be argued that preventing the long plays against J'ville could have won the game. You could also argue that J'ville would just had more of the long drives that won them the game in the 2nd half. I think, based on what we've seen, 2-2 is about as good as we could hope for right now. Let's see if they learned anything and can take their game to a higher level in what's turned out to be a pretty tough 5 game stretch (@ Arizona, @ Cincy, SF, @ Buffalo, @ Indy) before the bye. If they get through that 3-2 (putting them at 5-4), I'd be fairly optimistic about them going at least 5-2 in the last 7.
Unfortunately this isn't flag football. His ability to stay healthy plays a significant role in determining how good a player he is.
I did, too. At this point, I'm willing to admit I was horribly wrong. Dude is going to be a star in this league.
Schaub was held scoreless at home. Do you how hard it is to not score a point at home? The Pats had a division game on the road without Welker that the Jets had been hyping for weeks. The Saints scored 17 points on the Jets. Even the Titans scored 17 points on the Jets.
Those teams also had a more effective running game against the Jets. We had almost nothing on the ground. Hard to beat a good defense with no running game. I give Schaub about a B or B- so far this season. He's played well enough to win in 3 games but some of his decision making the last two games has been questionable. Yesterday he held the ball in the pocket too long a few times. He has a hard time giving up on a play and throwing the ball away.
The texans did score at home, it just wasnt a pass and it was only once. Texans got manhandled against the Jets. Ok. But to focus on one bad game (for everyone, not just schaub) and then ignore the other games which he performed well reeks of tunnel vision it's a fact and i don't understand why you are trying to make excuses for it (other than being argumentative and filling the need to express how much you don't like schaub). Brady, Brees and Schaub did not throw a TD pass against the Jets. No matter how you want to slice it, it's still a fact.
Both Saints scores were defensive TDs. The Saints have arguably the best offense in the league, and they scored 3 offensive points. Kerry Collins was 15 out of 37 against the Jets, by the way. Nice try, though.
exactly. the saints rushed for over 150 yards yesterday against the Jets. The Texans didn't even hit 40. Not that Schaub played well the first game - but nobody's claimed he has. They've said he's played great as a whole, for the season, and since he came back last year, which is true. I'm not as concerned about this. He seems to be feeling the pressure much better and scrambling away from it, while keeping the play alive. Plus, I think this is scheme as much as anything. It seems clear that a large part of the offense is big play...and why not? AJ has the ability to shake loose on deep passes on a regular basis, Kevin Walter seems adept at 15+ yard receptions, and Owen is great at those middle of the field 10-20 yard routes. It takes a little bit of time for those plays to develop. They clearly do need to work on their running game, but probably should also mix in a little more of the 5-10 yard pass routes to Daniels, AJ on a quick slant, to the back on a screen pass, etc. But considering what's available to them, and the type of skill players they have, if the o-line can keep protecting the pass as well as it has, I think we'll see a fair amount of Schaub holding on to the ball a second longer than you think he should. That said, watching Romo, Ben and others yesterday and throughout the season, it seems to me that a lot of quarterbacks do it, too.
Btw, Schaub has the fourth most fantasy points this season. He could be second and have more points than Brees if it wasn't a blow out yesterday.
Mr. Clutch said this already, and Im going to say it again...the reason is because you question whether people are even watching the games, then you throw out uninformed data. The Saints scored 2 defensive TDs against the Jets. QB stats against the Jets: Drew Brees: 20/32, 190 yds, 5.9 ypa, 0 TD, 0 INT, 78.9 rating Kerry Collins: 15/37, 170 yds, 4.6 ypa, 1 TD, 2 INT, 41.5 rating Tom Brady: 23/47, 216 yds, 4.6 ypa, 0 TD, 1 INT, 53.1 rating Matt Schaub: 18/33, 166 yds, 5.0 ypa, 0 TD, 1 INT, 55.9 rating Also, keep in mind that Brees had 3 weeks of game tape to study before stepping out on the field...Collins and Brady also had tape. Schaub had the least preparation material to work with. It doesnt matter if its at home or not...the Jets are a damn good defensive team.
