Is there anybody out there who has been waterboarded [and doesn't now waterboard for a living] who will say that it is not torture?

Are you really making a comparison between a zydeco band member and a former SEAL?

Jesse Ventura is a very intelligent man. The problem is that, like a lot of intelligent people, he's a little crazy.

That being said..waterboarding is torture. Waterboarding is NOT drowning. Drowning is a cause of death. Waterboarding by definition gives you the apprehension of drowning. Waterboarding and drowning are not the same thing.

Navy SEAL. He probably knows more about covert ops and interrogation than you do. When I say "probably," it should be read as knows more in that he has been involved in it and you know essentially zero.

He has a lot more cred than you do on this topic...unless you have been involved in covert ops.

    According to Webster:

    drown
    \ˈdrau̇n\
1 a: to suffocate by submersion especially in water
b: to submerge especially by a rise in the water level <villages drowned by the flooding river>
c: to soak, drench, or cover with a liquid

Nowhere does it mention the word "death". The closest you can say is that it says to "suffocate", but Webster defines suffocate as

1 a (1): to stop the respiration of (as by strangling or asphyxiation)
    (2): to deprive of oxygen
b: to make uncomfortable by want of fresh air
2: to impede or stop the development of

Waterboarding does all of these things. One does not have to die in order to "drown". Waterboarding = drowning.

Well, there was that covert operation that got John McCain elected to the presidency. Much ballyhooed at the time.

I think I would trust Jessie's point of view over most people on the topic. Did you hear when he said, "If he could waterboard Cheney for an hour, he make him confess to the (Sharon) Tate murders?" That's saying alot.

Also, you can imagine what kind of training seals go through, which would probably seem like borderline abuse to the average person. But, remember, these are some of the toughest guys in the world, so they can take it.
