The BCS rankings are a combo of two things: polls and computers. The computers have Texas ahead because they've had a tougher schedule *so far* - that's why we're ahead right now. Once you add Tech and OSU to OU's schedule, the computer rankings will be very similar. Texas will have beaten Missouri while OU will have beaten TCU and Tulsa. The computers will be a wash, for the most part.

But OU will be solidly ahead in the polls. They are already well ahead of Texas in the polls, and they will beat the #1 team in the country (Tech) along with a solid OSU team, while Texas is beating Kansas and a crappy A&M team. There's no way Texas will make up ground there, and the spread will probably get bigger, though some of that depends on how Florida, Penn State, and USC sort themselves into the rankings.

So at the end of the day, OU is almost definitely ahead of Texas. It's possible in some fluke scenarios that changes - say OU squeaks by both teams while Texas wins both games by 50 or something like that - but it's relatively unlikely.

Or if OU loses to Tech.

But in that scenario, Tech outright wins the B12, so the BCS standings are irrelevant.

If Tech somehow manages to beat OU....which IMO would be an upset...I think we get a UT vs Tech rematch in the national championship game.

Assuming both Bama and Florida win out their regular seasons, the winner of the SEC championship game goes to the NC game.

I can almost guarantee it. I hope it'll be Texas vs. Florida, tho Texas is a long shot now...

    Major I think your wrong.

There's already some backlash agaist voters who currently have OU ahead of Texas. This will correct itself with sundays polls. Don't forget we also have Mizzou on our schedule (OU and Tech don't) and they should win out which increases our SOS with the computers. In the event of a three way tie don't underestimate Macks diplomatic abilites (circa 2004) in getting voters to put us ahead of Tech and OU.

How good is Texas? Our offense layed the biggest egg of the season, held Tech to 28 (4TDs) offensive points on the road, and had the lead with 90 seconds remaining in the game.

Of course this is all pointless if Tech wins out or Ou loses to OKST. We need OU to win out!!!

I'm pretty sure Florida will take it if they beat Bama in the Sec title game.(if they both win out until than)

Though if UF loses to FSU than beats bama UT could sneak in and face tech.

    That would be unreal

What happened? I loved how the game started, not so much how it ended.

OU will stomp Mizzou in the Big XII championship game, so they will have Mizzou on their schedule

Florida vs. OU in the BCS championship game. Bank on it

That's certainly possible, but I don't see how the argument will fly. It would make sense if we were just talking about OU/Texas, but you'd also have Tech in the mix. If Texas argues that we should be above OU, Tech could argue they should be above us for the same reason (and OU would argue they should be above Tech). So voters will have to look at the full body of work, and OU has multiple advantages:

    1. They've been more impressive recently
    2. They started the season around #1, so expectations that they were that good favor them
    3. They lost the earliest
    4. They would close with with wins over #1 Tech and top 12 or so Okie State, while we're beating up on Kansas and A&M
    5. While we have Mizzou on the schedule, they have TCU (ranked similarly to Mizzou) and Tulsa (8-1, only loss is to OU).

I think it will be hard to make up ground on OU in the polls, unless they really squeak by or get lucky in a game while we totally dominate opponents. But who knows - hopefully I'm wrong! If we do make up ground, it's going to have to be this week and next week (when they have a bye). If they still lead in the polls after next week, I don't see it happening.

The SEC is so overated.....the Big 12 this year is hands down the best college conference...it is not even close.

I think UT ends up in a BCS game against Penn State or something like that.

I guess we'll see, but if Tech loses a game, I don't think they will even be in the conversation, based partially on losing late and partially on the fact that they have Tech on their jerseys and the others have Texas and Oklahoma. I think most voters will eliminate Tech on those grounds, and the real debate will be between UT and OU -- which UT will win based on the head-to-head. It's not fair, but it is what it is.

Also, as far as OU's opponents, TCU won't be ranked as highly as Mizzou after losing this week. In addition, I'm not sure what you mean about Tulsa being 8-1 and losing to OU. Tulsa is 8-1, but their only loss was to Arkansas -- they didn't play OU. Were you thinking of someone else?

    How about this scenario....

OU beats Tech and then loses to OSU. Then Tech will lose in the Big 12 Championship.

Texas plays SEC Championship winner in the BCS Championship.

If a one loss Big12 team wins the Big 12 Championship, they'll go to the NC game. Voters are now very reluctant to include a team in the BCSCG if they didn't even win their own conference.

I'm glad a bunch of UT fans took over this thread to talk about themselves. Great win Tech - 1 more!

Mizzou will help Texas' and only Texas' SOS in a three way tie to determine who goes to the Big XII championship game. As I understand it the team with the higher BCS standing gets into the the Big XII championship game.

Certainly could happen. I don't think that's likely, but I have no idea how the mind of the voters will work. A lot may depend on style points of all these teams going forward.

I don't know where the Tulsa thing came from. I had been told that and assumed it was true. It looks like their other big non-conf win is Cinci (#21 in Sagarin). In the Sagarin ratings, TCU actually held similar to Mizzou. Not sure if that will be the case in the other computers though.

Texas' best chance is for whoever wins the conference (OU or Tech) to lose to Missouri. It should work regardless of if it's Tech or OU.
