I should know better than to respond to you judging on your posts so far.....but

Im gonna say it so others can see it.

As of right now, our chances for Ike just went down big time, not only have the steering currents pointed him more to the north, but we are also due a nice big front draped across out area that is expected to shield the upper Texas gulf coast from any storms.

Granted, this could still change, but that's the way it's looking right now. Even if Ike plows thru Florida and enters the Gulf, it will get dragged to the north by the cool front before it gets to us.

    oh and edit

Josephine is a fish storm....Id *almost* put money on it.

Ok, Mr. Meteorologist. If not Ike or Josephine, then it will be another storm. Plenty of time left for at least 5 more major hurricanes and at least 10 more tropical storm/minor hurricanes.

not a meteorologist, but at least I bother to educate myself about the basics of the topic before opening my mouth and making myself look the fool.

but then again....you dont care about making good on-topic posts....do ya?

yeah, they got some work to do over the off-season. Dr Masters has already mentioned they are working on the code for a better version of the site, but its been such a busy season they don't have time to work on it.

His blog goes down constantly when a storm gets close to the coast.

Has there been any mention how much the wunderground web site traffic varies from peak (now?) to trough (Spring?)?

They might have to make the pages a bit leaner in content or consider having more server capacity available during the peak season.

    your point is?

Notice I did not predict anything, I mearly relayed what the models and steering currents are saying right now. I thought I made it perfectly clear that things can change.

    not that I have seen.

That's a pretty complicated site tho, all the various models and graphics with the weather for any location and what is basically the equivalent of a large forum in the blog section. You cant beat it for staying on top of the facts, you just gotta know who to listen to and who doesnt have a clue.

It is a very intense web site that likely requires quite a bit of server resources. It is possible that they could thin out the content on each page to make them leaner and require less computer usage to compose the page. The downside is that they will likely end up with people staying on the site longer requesting more pages to get the same quantity of information that they are accustomed to.

Louisiana Residents Trickle Home as Power Failures Slow Return

Some Louisiana residents are returning home in Hurricane Gustav's wake while many more will have to wait as Gulf Coast communities struggle with a lack of basic utilities, Governor Bobby Jindal said.

The reversal of this weekend's evacuation cut the state's shelter population by 3,500 to 79,500, Jindal told reporters in the Baton Rouge today. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin reluctantly allowed residents back into the city, where most neighborhoods were without electricity and businesses were shut, according to the Associated Press.

Restoring power remains the biggest obstacle to allowing people back, Jindal said. As of yesterday 1.4 million customers were without electricity in the state. Drivers lined up to buy gas because some filling stations lack generators to pump fuel, Jindal said.

``We are very eager for people to come back as quickly as they can,'' Jindal said. Yet ``this is a serious storm still causing serious damage.''

In the capital, the bustle returned to Main Street Market, as the downtown Baton Rouge mall's businesses opened with the return of power. Other parts of the city remained off the grid, with side streets blocked by fallen trees.

Jindal said this weekend that about 1.9 million people had fled coastal areas, in an unprecedented evacuation that left behind only 10,000 of New Orleans's 300,000 residents.

    `Stay Right There'

Lake Charles, a city 128 miles (206 kilometers) west of Baton Rouge, is one of the few communities inviting residents to return, Jindal said.

Emergency officials urged people to be patient.

People who are out of harm's way should ``stay right there until this stuff starts coming back online,'' Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator David Paulison told reporters aboard Air Force One. ``Otherwise, they're going to come back in and be a burden on the community.''

President George W. Bush said the federal government will do all it can to assist the recovery from Gustav, including the release of more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. He spoke in Baton Rouge after a briefing from government and emergency officials.

Gustav struck the Gulf Coast on Sept. 1 as a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 110 miles per hour, ripping through roofs, felling trees and knocking out power lines.

The storm swept inland and weakened into a tropical depression close to the border of Texas and Arkansas, north of Louisiana.

    `No Excuse'

Electricity companies told the governor it may take nine days to restore half the power in some communities. Jindal called the delay unacceptable and said utilities have the manpower to do better.

About 15,000 utility workers are repairing the power failures caused by Gustav, compared with 4,000 who helped after Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005, Jindal said.

``There is simply no excuse for it to take weeks or months to get the power back up,'' he said.

Large businesses along the Mississippi River should have their power restored later today, Jindal said.

The governor said he is asking oil and natural-gas companies to pay for 200 generators to be used at filling stations after complaints that people are running out of gas as they tried to return home.

    Filling Levee Breach

In southeastern Louisiana, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provided 400 1-ton sandbags to fill a 150-foot (46-meter) breach in a levee protecting Plaquemines Parish. The Parish Web site said some residents would be allowed back as of 3 p.m. local time today, and residents were told to have enough food for three days.

Emergency officials have distributed 332,000 meals, 748,800 bottles of water, 920,000 bags of ice and 5,000 tarps, the governor said.

Among the last to return to the Gulf Coast will be the 9,000 evacuated critical-care patients and nursing-home residents, Jindal said.

Case workers will be assigned for as long as a year to help get housing and social services for those who can't go back soon, said Michael Leavitt, secretary of the Health and Human Services Department.

``We have come to understand that when people are displaced they need help on an ongoing basis to get back on their feet,'' he said in a telephone interview from Louisiana.
