Some more info. The McCain campaign is chartering planes to fly the Louisiana delegates back to Louisiana.
If they fixed the levels against Lake Ponchatran than I think they will hold. The storm looks like it will come near high tide (which is between 3pm and 4pm tomorrow). That's a worrisome sign - and yes, this will be a nasty storm surge which will push a lot of water in to the Lake. I hope they really upgraded those levies.
Couple of thoughts: 1) McCain is the only candidate in this race with the proven leadership skills to handle this crisis. He will shine during this period of time when the country looks for leadership qualities from the two candidates. Obama will be damaged as voters see real-world problems and realize that their fantasy-land candidate won't be able to solve the problems from his perch atop his magic unicorn. 2) Let's see how things go in NO when the people actually obey the evacuation orders AND the local government isn't seen crying on tv because of their unpreparedness.
He certainly showed his leadership during Katrina, when he was eating birthday cake with Bush during the crisis. Take the bet
Looks like Gustav did in fact weaken to a cat 2 hurricane just before landfall - with winds of 110 mph. With that said, it probably won't cause the sort of damage feared. The only question now is if the levees will hold up to the massive storm surge associate with this storm due to the direction and location of landfall - so far so good. New Orleans may have escaped a bullet - cross our fingers.
And Obama was doing what??????????? That's right you don't know, well at least you know he wasn't down in LA helping..........
2 things that make your post a red herring. 1. McCain criticized Bush for his inaction and failure during Katrina. The whole time though McCain was laughing it up eating birthday cake in front of Airforce One. The fact that McCain is trying to use Katrina as one place to separate himself from Bush's miserable record makes it relevant that he was celebrating and eating a big cake standing right in front of the plane with the President. 2. Obama isn't from LA. FEMA which dealt with it is part of the executive branch and not the legislative branch which is where Obama sits as member of the Senate. Furthermore Obama's committees in the Senate wouldn't be directly involved in Katrina either. Obama has plenty of issues that separate him from Bush, and doesn't need to try and use Katrina as one.
He's actually working to use his huge fundraising engine to help raise money for the red cross in support of diaster recovery for Gustav. He decided not to go to the region because he didn't want to pull emergency resources away from the recovery effort. I think that's pretty noble and shows a great deal of compassion and leadership. Why criticize the man?
Here is Barack Obama’s record on rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. http://thinkonthesethings.wordpress...e-off-barack-obamas-hurricane-katrina-record/
