Moes. We all understand that you have issue with Jesus and Animals (especially man's best friend, dogs), but I'm pretty sure Joel Osteen has never said that bad things woulnd't happen if you love Jesus. Nice try - but you completely made that up, unless you can post a source.

Actually, when my buddy's wife described the event, she noted that Osteen didn't exactly try to calm his wife down. It was like he had seen it before and knew not to.

I, for one, don't hate the Osteens. I just absolutley disagree with the entire concept of a behmuth church that turns out record profits.

not at all and I did not make it up... it was meant as satire as to how he presents himself while he "preaches."

I am Christian myself (or try to be) and I just don't appreciate the way Joel Osteen sugarcoats the gospel without giving the other sides of the spectrum.

There are consequences in life, don't sit there and tell people all is going to fine and dandy if you love Jesus... its a tough road to hoe.

Speak the truth, not just the good part.

Osteen is one of the leading proponents of the "prosperity gospel" or "prosperity theology" which states that material prosperity, particularly financial prosperity and success in business and personal life, is to be expected as external evidence of God's favor.

Yeah, yeah, we'll see who has a flight-attendant-sized flare up at the end of next regular season. Yessiree.

Joel's message obviously went over your head. Joel never said that "all is going to be fine and dandy if you love Jesus" or that hardships will not come to pass. This misunderstanding of yours could be from your lack of education or a bias on your part, either way I think helping you figure it out is hopeless.
But if you are a Christian as you claim, all you need to understand is this: you do not know for certain how to properly follow Jesus, so save us your commentary on how others should interpret the Bible. When it comes to faith, sincere effort is all that matters and there is nothing to show that Joel or his congregation lacks that.
But I like how you call your one-dimensional jokes "satire," it makes you sound real smart.

Oh, here's my favorite part of your diatribe: "Speak the truth, not just the good part." I was not aware there was a "bad part" to Truth or Jesus' message directed to believers. Are you sure you picked up a correct translation of the Bible or did you translate it yourself?

Keep trying to be a Christian Moes. I think you can get there eventually if you stop judging other Christians.

Your friend that keeps you in line,

I knew that this flight attendant wasn't white before seeing her photo.

I'd believe that V.Osteen had a tussle with her but I find hemorrhoids highly doubtful. I thought we got it from trying to strain to poop.

Ugh, I hate people who don't practice what they preach. How can you be "Christian" if you treat other people like ****?

Well, you can. That's why they built in all the business about sin and forgiveness. Being a Christian is not about being good.

Wait...wait...wait...hold the phone. Huge difference between discernment and judgment.

I have issues with anyone preaching prosperity gosel. This is a big part of what Osteen teaches...and yes, I've listened to sermons. I've heard him talking about how God's favor has gotten him in at restaurants and better parking spaces...how it's gotten him out of speeding tickets....and that it can happen to me, too, if I just believe strongly enough.

I find zero support for this in the Bible. I look at the disciples and I see zero evidence of the notion that intimacy with God means propserity in this life...for them it meant hardship and death. Remember Paul's long speech on all the hardships he had been through? Or do you remember that the man whom Jesus called the greatest man to have ever lived, John the Baptist, living in the wilderness his entire life and ending up with his head on a platter for Herod? Or the early church thrown to the lions...or the modern church facing persecution around the world?? Or how about Jesus, himself, who said to follow him was to carry your own cross...who said he had no place to lay his head...and who ultimately was beaten to a bloody pulp and crucified.

Now I believe all blessing comes from God. But I don't believe it's a quid pro quo transaction. God isn't a cosmic slot machine. That's what prosperity gospel reduces Him to be....and I will absolutely call that out when I see it because I believe it perverts the character of God.

I'm also not thrilled with anyone who would spend that much money on facilities for a church and/or put their name in big letters on the side of it. That makes me vomit...but it's a separate issue.

Why is that? I don't remember reading in the good book that the Lord wanted Pastors to be in the poor house. As long as they aren't swindling their church members and coming up with scams to get more money aka Benny Hinn, then I have no problem with guys like Joel Osteen and TD Jakes et.al.
And I'm sure both pastors I mentioned make a SH.ITload more money from their outside endeavours-books, movies, music etc than they do from their churches.

    Excellent post, Max.

I've always had this theory. If your church sells bumper stickers, it's a cult. Please keep in mind that I am Jewish. I've never seen a mega synagogue. When did the Christian church become so impersonal? It doesn't make sense to me and I don't understand the appeal of these gigantic churches. Don't you want the ability to know your preacher personally? Don't you want them to be part of your community? It almost seems to me that these mega-churches are the half-assed way of being a christian. This way you don't have to participate in anything, but you feel better because you can say you went somewhere on Sunday.

But why do they have to opportunities to write books, etc? Because of their churches.

Wow...I'm impressed that you were able to identify the flight attendant's race without even seeing a photo. That makes you extremely talented. Or something else. I can't think of the word though. Hmmm....But it's okay. Because, like you, I hate it when people claim to be Christian, but then assume someone with a somewhat shady lawsuit couldn't possibly be white. That gets on my nerves ALL the time.

Oh, and lots of things can cause hemorrhoids, including stress. I don't know that she has a legit claim, but it's not just from trying too hard to poo.
