Ya i agree. What i really enjoyed was how he called out when Devin Harris and flopped. He doesn't beat around the bush to saying something, instead he just straight up said it "that was a flop by Harris"...Gotta love it!
He also said that when he first heard about the gambling scandal that Donaghy was the first person he thought of being involved in it.
Yeah, that was pretty interesting. For those that didn't hear it, Mike Breen (the play-by-play guy) was recounting how when he first asked JVG to speculate on the referee that allegedly gambled on games, JVG replied, "Tim Donaghy." JVG says that the first thing that came to his mind was the Orlando game when Donaghy started making some "bizarre" calls in the fourth and was brushing off other refs that may have seen things differently in the game; so his mind immediately went back to that night. Also, when he was commenting on guys that have special "court vision", he mentioned Nash, Lebron and McGrady. Oh, and Breen said that JVG "loves Battier"... Seriously though, one thing I will DEFINITELY miss about JVG is his "off-the-court" persona. The guy has a great sense of humor, and I for one am a sucker for that dry/sarcastic sense of humor that he brought to this team. Nothing will EVER top some of the all-time classic quotes or interviews that JVG conducted with the local media. He was pure gold. That's one thing Adelman will never have, he's the most boring and monotone coach you will likely ever meet. There is pretty much nothing interesting about him personality-wise. Let's not forget "JVG on a mobile"...that ALONE was worth having JVG around. EDIT: apparently SR610 still has a few audio clips of "JVG on a Mobile"...it still cracks me up :-D http://www.sportsradio610.com/pages/151263.php
JVG is a walking badass, yes.. I typed that, he is a walking midjet new york grumpy fun entertaining smart defensive minded badass
I love the ESPN commercial with him and the Celtic trio. Haha, great acting...teary eyed while watching Hoosiers.
he would be a riot to have a beer with. JVG was great off the court. The time he yelled at jeremy to "get off his ass and come help" while the rockets were doing the katrina relief years back . The telephone interview when he yelled at the cleaning lady "no thanks! Thank you!". Or the classic, "hooray for us." or "i'm really excited...you cant tell?". The guy was hilarious but his humor went over most peoples heads. I hope they still do jvg on a mobile. that was too good. It's going to be hard to watch adelman, b/c like you said he is about as boring as it gets.
The Devin Harris moment was classic -- he didn't even hesitate - "they shouldn't call that. That was a flop by Harris." It was also funny when Breen made the mistake of bringing up the Torre situation and I was like "oh boy, here we go" and JVG launches a mini-tirade about how the guy won four championships, went to the playoffs every year and they reward him by firing him. Yeah Mike, you should know better than mention that to someone who has just been through a very similar situation... JVG is awesome. I miss the guy already.
I liked how he picked the Rockets to have the second-best record in the West this year, ahead of San Antonio and Dallas.
I'll always think of JVG as a good coach for the Rockets, better than Chaney. As an analyst, he's freaking awesome.
Hey, i like his commentating as much as the next guy, but c'mon. JVG won 0 championships and didn't win a playoff series. Apples and oranges.
my favorite part of last night was when he basically told the NBA and the media to STFU about Kobe Bryant.
always liked him calling the games when he was with TNT before he became the coach, love that he'll be calling ABC and ESPN games, hopefully it'll make up for their crappy overall presentation
