i would love trading for lamar. that won''t work salary wise. battier rafer and sura works. i'd do that trade in a heart beat. that means we'd be reliying on brooks or lucas to step up as a back up pg.

If the Rockets can't sign a free agent or make a trade they have around 10M worth salary going to waste.

    Sura + Lucas + Novak + Alston = 9.85M

I didn't include Spanoulis since Morey has consistently said he expects him back.

Alston is in there cause I don't see Rockets wanting to be in a sitiuation where three years down they have two 34yo PG's taking up over 10M worth of salary.

    Trade:
Sura + Lucas + Novak + Alston + draft rights to Malick Badiane
    -for-
LaFrentz + draft rights to Rudy Fernandez + Joel Freeland

Ideally in this trade Rockets turn expiring scrub contracts into some future pieces who'll be locked into late first round rookie salaries. It's more future planning...

The other part, LaFrentz has two years remaining, and potentially refreshed. He spent a season on a deep Portland bench, that went through a youth movement, where he was never in their plans.

It wasn't that long ago in Boston, where LaFrentz was a thorn in the side of Yao and the Rockets. Hitting 3P shots, using his quickness to get Yao in foul trouble, can also block some shots. I think LaFrentz can still help this Rockets team.

    3) Shane Battier / Bonzi Wells

    Clippers Roster:
    Cassell Conroy (Livingston)
    Mobley Ross
    Maggette Thorton Korolev
    Brand Thomas Williams
    Kaman Davis
    Unsigned: Diaz, Jordan

*Livingston is expected to out up to the All Star game. Korolev's option wasn't picked up but they've re-signed him for the minimum.
*Conroy, Korolev, Williams, Davis won't see much or any playing time.

Clippers still need a vet PG that can play starter minutes. Thorton is interesting since he's being touted as Maggette's replacement and that could come sooner than later given Maggette's relationship with Dunleavey.

Morey's pulled one fantasy trade out of nowhere maybe he can get the voodoo happening again?

Alston + Butler + draft rights to Landry for Maggette
Clippers get 3 player who could possibly play significant minutes for them. They certainly get more depth.

    Cassell Alston Diaz (Livingston)
    Mobley Ross
    Thomas Thorton Korolev
    Brand Landry Williams
    Kaman Butler Davis

    James Brooks Head
    McGrady Bonzi Snyder
    Battier Maggette Harris
    Scola Hayes Reed
    Yao Deke (PJ Brown/Francis)

What about a package consisting of two or more of Head, Lucas, Snyder, Novak in a sign-and-trade for Jarvis Hayes?

The Wiz are not going to re-sign him (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3713).

He would be a hell of a guy off the bench playing the 2 behind TMac.

    Alston/James/Brooks
    TMac/J. Hayes/James
    Battier/Wells/Harris
    Scola/C. Hayes/Landry
    Yao/Deke/Butler

Does this sound like a reasonable trade...?

Trade Rafer Alston, Luther Head, Justin Reed, & Bob Sura for Mike Bibby...

    1) Mike Bibby / Mike James
    2) Tracy McGrady / Bonzi Wells
    3) Shane Battier / Kirk Snyder
    4) Luis Scola / Chuck Hayes
    5) Yao Ming / Dikembe Mutombo

Bobcats only have one PG signed in Felton.

Alston + Lucas + Sura + Novak + Cash Considerations

Alston & Sura covers their PG vacancies.

Up to $3M is allowable for cash considerations. That would cover waiving Sura (1M) & Novak's (700k) $1.7M worth of expiring contracts.

    Rockets get a 9.84M TE.

What's the story on free agent Matt Barnes?

I'd like to see a sign and trade with him in case Wells proves to be a dud this year too.

I would even throw in Mike James if we could ever get Bibby.

SL is over, Rockets got scola. Should they trade Landry's draft rights?

    Alston James Brooks Lucas
    McGrady Bonzi Head
    Battier Snyder Reed Harris
    Scola Hayes Landry Novak
    Yao Deke Butler

One of the criticisms Landry faced in college was that he struggled against bigger players. That was certainly the case in SL. He was drafted based on need but now Scola's on board that need is gone.

Boston need a PG but have depth at forward. Perhaps Lucas + draft rights to Landry for Leon Powe?

    SF: Pierce, Green
    PF: Jefferson, Gomes, Big Baby

    Alston James Brooks Sura
    McGrady Bonzi Head
    Battier Snyder Reed Harris
    Scola Hayes Powe Novak
    Yao Deke Butler

    Then send Alston + Snyder + Sura(1M) + Novak(700k) + 1.7M cash considerations to Bobcats for 11.43M TE + second round pick

Sign a free agent PG to backup Mike James in either Steve Francis, Charlie Bell, Jannero Pargo, or Earl Boykins.

    James (FA) Brooks
    McGrady Bonzi Head
    Battier Reed Harris
    Scola Hayes Powe
    Yao Deke Butler

^^ I don't know about that. After all those trades, did we really get any better? (besides the TE)

Well we didn't get any better (yet). We sing Butler and Scola. That's nothin' but they're both PFs so that's better. I saw Butler, he's really good guy, strong. But the worst is that any of them can play in the startin' 5.

    But look at Brooks... :)

How about Sura/Head/(Filler) for Ricky Davis? Its the last year of his contract so he will *probably* not be a knucklehead. If we sign Deke; the filler can Butler since the Wolves are thin at the frontline (it's been said Garnett will be moved before the begining of the year) and he would fit in well with the young core. Also, sura's expiring contract doesn't hurt...

    2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 7.8 minutes

    Bob Sura

    Expiring Contract

    Incoming
    Mike Bibby
    6-2 PG from Arizona
    17.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.7 apg in 34.0 minutes

Change in team outlook: -8.9 ppg, -3.3 rpg, and -4.7 apg.

    Sacramento Trade Breakdown

    Outgoing
    Mike Bibby
    6-2 PG from Arizona
    17.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.7 apg in 34.0 minutes

    Incoming
    Rafer Alston
    6-2 PG from Frenso State
    13.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 5.4 apg in 37.0 minutes

    Mike James
    6-2 PG from Duquesne
    10.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.6 apg in 25.3 minutes

    Justin Reed
    6-8 SF from Mississippi
    2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 7.8 minutes

    Bob Sura
    6-5 from Florida State
    Expiring Contract

Change in team outlook: +8.9 ppg, +3.3 rpg, and +4.7 apg.

    Successful Scenario
Due to Houston and Sacramento being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Sacramento had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Houston Rockets 15 Man Roster
    1) Mike Bibby / Aaron Brooks
    2) Tracy McGrady / Luther Head / Kirk Snyder
    3) Shane Battier / Bonzi Wells
    4) Luis Scola / Chuck Hayes / Steve Novak
    5) Yao Ming / Dikembe Mutombo

I would think about it but probably say no. But I would try Sura + expirings, maybe Novak, Snyder, JL3, rights to Landry, etc for Marshall, who Cleve may need to dump for peantus/expiring contract given commitments to Verajo & Gooden. Overall I think Alston is worth more than Marshall right now. Alston is a serivecable but low end starting 1 or quality back-up--there are teams in major need (Heat? Nugs?).

I want no part of LaFrenz and his big contract. A soft center or slow footed PF. I would much prefer Brian Cook over him, who can hit the 3, cheaper and is tough and assertive in comparison.

I like these. Not sure the other parties would go for it.

Bibby is too much cost, and is he that much better than James now?

    OTHERS

As for Hayes and Ricky Davis, swingman is the deepest position on the team.

Barnes I would like because he can play some PF, but we don't have enough money left to make a serious bid.

Someone mentioned Powe. He is no more proven than Landry. If we do a move like that proposed we should get someone like Ike D or one of Atl's excess PFs, who have shown at least a little more in the NBA. May and Brian Cook are others.

Foremost I do want us to add a PF, the one real questionmark in the lineup, but a guy we know can give you 15minutes + in the NBA.

Trade some scrubs, highly likely the other team is only willing to offer back... scrubs.

Donyell isn't a scrub, but he could be had for scrubs who are expiring. That is the kind of deal we want, a servicable player in a crowded situation in a salary dump.

Just saw a news saying Hawks and Josh Smiths is disagreeing on the price, which would be about 5 years for $50 Million...

I really like Battier, but would this trade benefit our roster?

    Outgoing
Battier + Luther Head + Bob Sura

    Incoming
Josh Smiths with a contract extension + filter (contract dumping from Hawks)
