hmm, why is season average relevant? I was talking about playing time in meaningless games, and why this win isn't much to celerate for.

you should stop it right there.

Who said anything about big deal again? It's only relevant as to how the Rockets got the win against the Denver "all star" team, and how relevant it is to the teams future. I mean, if you try to win meaningless games, at least let your young players try to do it. Nothing more. You think Head should gotten more minutes than Wesley, I agree. And we should leave it right there.

I don't quite understand what you're saying. If you're complaining that we won the game, then you'll have no argument from me. But you're the one that brought up the fact that you thought the younger players should have played more. And you contend that them not playing more is the reason why we lost... or at least contributed to it.
But all I'm saying is that one of the reasons we even won that game is that Juwan Howard finally showed up. But the even bigger reason we won is that Denver decided to disappear for the final 5 minutes or so. Even with Howard shooting well, we were still sucking and down by 8. Can't blame JVG for Denver not scoring for the rest of the game.
And it was the younger players who had all the key plays at the end to win the game. Head played better than Wesley that game, so having him play more minutes would have made it more likely we won.
Either way, it's all 20/20 hindsight and I don't see a reason to bring it up.

I highly suggest you read others' posts more carefully before reply, in context.

I was saying, I wouldn't complaining as much if we played the likes of Head, Swift, and Hayes more and they actually got us the win. Not JH scoring 30+. What you are saying isn't any different from mine.

Is that clear enough for you?

Personally I want Randy Foye, the guy is what this team needs I feel. Are you really that dense? Do you realize that if we have the 7th pick we could trade down if we wanted to? It's called OPTIONS, not a very complex concept. People here complaining just want what's best for the franchise. Just for the sake of assumption, let's say Brandon Roy falls to the number 7 spot like he's projected to. Not only do we lose the chance at a player who has more potential, but we lose trade options too. In a scenario like that if a team like let's say the Magic want him, then we can trade him for a player like Ronnie Brewer who's projected to go to them. Not only could we get Brewer if the Magic wanted Roy in this scenario, but we could also ask for a player like Turkoglu or Arroyo. Granted these players aren't superstars but they could help a team like the Rockets that is in desperate need of talent. Not to mention that you'd still get Brewer who I'm sure will be a fine player. This is but a small sample of the scenarios that could play out, do you understand that concept of options now? A hollow win in Denver using your veterans who won't be here much longer does nothing for the organization. Trade options and a potentially better player on the other hand is significant. I hope that you can understand what our frustration is, and quit being so uptight about this. Besides, tanking is only wrong if there is no benefit from it ;) .

And I'm saying that playing or not playing the younger players was inconsequential. You brought it up. I didn't think it was a big deal either way.
We played Head and Hayes plenty (24 min) and playing them or Swift 5-10 minutes more would not have mattered with Denver not scoring for the last 5 minutes.
You can highly suggest and try to clarify all you want, but if you don't take your own advice it's not going to help anyone.

Just to note: While Howard was a big contributer the reason we won was because of Head and Hayes (along with Bogan). Without Hayes, Head and Bogans all who played the final quarter and crunch time, the Rockets dont win. Heck if it werent for Hayes the Rockets dont win.

man. I have to pencil that up to the general public and not waste any post replying. I'll end this with my original point, you feel free to take whatever suits you

I don't think people will be upset if we win the game with young guys playing heavy minutes and contributing. Or, even if Denver was actually giving effort. A win by the young guys against a full-strength Denver team might as well give us something in the future. However, that's not the case in this win.

Each spot we fall in the drafting order is another player we can't pick -- because the team above us has him. What if we had our hearts set on getting the guy? Too late. Thanks a lot, JVG.

Yes, Howard was a big contributor but not the reason we win. Sort of the same thing could be said for Yao Ming. :D

Anyway, I would of play Swift, Hayes a lot, and Lampje in the 4th when they sent in all the scrubs, let's see how they win.

the win against Denver may cost us 3 slots. Had we lost that game, we would be in 3-way tie with Minny and Boston, which gives us a chance at #6. Also, it gives us better chance at top 3 picks. People are going to be real mad when either Boston or Minny get a top 3 pick and we end up with #9.

My question is... even if that draft pick is worth a postage stamp. How much good did the win do us? I don't think any FA's are doing to be like oh if you'd of won one more i'd sign.. but no thanks

To put it more bluntly, if Stro played 35 minutes, and in unlikely event scored 31 pts and we got the win that way, I can live with that. Knowing Stro worth starting, prob worths 2 slots on the draft position. Knowing JH can put up numbers against scrubs does not.

    tru dat!

conversely ppl are gonna be happy if the 9th pick turns into Amare or Dirk or Marion or Tmac

    OR

Ppl are gonna be piss if we dont get a top 3 and the 9th pick turns into Ed Obbannon or Samaki Walker or Sweeteny or Eric Montross

    OR

Ppl are gonna be happy if we lose the flip with GS and the 9th pick turns into a top 3 pick by some small miracle of chance!

    OR

PPL are gonna be piss if our top 3 pick turns into Morrison or THomas or Gay turns into Mike Dunleavy, Stromile Swift or chris Jackson

COnClusion: Its clear as day that ppl are gonna be either PISS or HAppy about our draft pick! Unless of course they are just ambivalent. :p

Truth be told, I could live with Rockets playing Stro 48minutes, Lampe 48 minutes Bowen 48 minutes etc or all of them zero minutes. I could have lived with the ROckets winning by 50 or losing by 50, with Juwon scoring 30 or scoring 3 with JVG attcking Carmelos legs or not... BLUNTLY PUT I pretty much coulda live with anything that happend that game. ABout the only thing I couldnt live with that game was if I actually went to the game and during intermission got shot in the shoulder... err chest... err face ... err heart by Cheney and subsequently died 5 minutes later. NOW that I CANT IN NO UNCERTAIN terms live with!

The real point is missed. It's not about rationality or calmness here. It's about the comprehension ability. If one doesn't care about dropping 3 slots in the draft, I can pretty much conclude that this person has no concept whatsoever about strategic importance.

I don't think anyone disagrees with you on that point. However, that's not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is, yes, we dropped 2-3 spots in the draft. That's definitely bad. But is it as dire as some make it out to be? So far the opinions have been everywhere in between.
I'm of the opinion that the worse part of this is that we cut our chances in half for the Top 3 pick. After that, we would be anywhere from 6-9 and I figure it'll be a toss up at that point. Of course at 6 we would have more options in terms of who is still on the board and being able to trade down, etc. But it's not the end of the world.
Texans get to pick first but New Orleans and Tennesee sitting right below them don't sweat it too much because Bush/Leinart/Young/etc. are all equivalent (close enough) in talent and they would be happy with any. I figure players at 6-9 is close enough for us too.
