So you DID mean to single bigtexx out unlike the statement you wrote indicating that you DIDN'T mean to single him out?

So if I say, Tracy, Ming, Stromile, Bob and David are starting for the Rockets, that means I am expressing "affection"?

My initial post to bigtexxx was trying to make sure if he was aware of Yao Ming's surname. Simple as that. No other implication.

Then you jumped in, so did mleahy999. I subsequently explained that it is really odd for sports journalists/columnists to use "Ming" in articles otherwise considered formal, which I implied, if not for anything else, it was not very professional. I have long thought about this but for one reason or another, I never bother to start a thread on it. It just happened I saw bigtexxx was also calling Yao Ming "Ming", so I think it could be sort of convenient to bring it up. It would be a bonus to know what bigtexxx's intention is to use "Ming" instead of "Yao" -- he sure eliminated one of the reasons himself (see post #39). But I have no impetus to explore further, it would be very intrusive for me to do that.

Look, mleahy999 wanted to make a point that by calling someone first name (in US), you make that person feel "personable" (or at least you let others know that person is personable to you). I say this is moot in the case of people using "Ming" to refer to Yao Ming. Argue all you want, I just don't believe an average American would find Yao Ming so personable that he/she wants to call Yao Ming by his first name (unless you are Bill Walton who might disagree, but then again I've never seen Walton call Yao Ming by first name). Is it disrepectfull to say Ming? I am not in a position to say yes or not. Only the person speaks it knows what he means. Now if someone consistently uses players' first names when talking about them, I would change my opinion. I think you can hardly find anything like that in this BBS. It's just laughable you would come up with this example. Anyway, I hope you understand the context of my discussion. I certainly don't want to make a big deal out this. Like I said before, it is a problem, but no biggie.

    Thanks. Forgot about that...

Not really fighting with him, I just think it is so funny that someone would basically describe themselves as Jesus...that really kind of tops all the other claims. But I'll change my sig soon. Seems like MacBeth took his ball and went back to RealGM, where he has been posting quite a bit (as a Raptors fan).

wnes, I am hereby extending a standing offer to you. An olive branch, if you will. Since it seems you are so concerned about my inner workings and knowledge, I would like to offer you the chance to shadow me for a day. You can follow me around, observe how I think and act, and generally absorb the goodness that is the bigtexxx chi. It will be a fantastic learning opportunity for you. I sense that you need a role model in your life. A big brother, as you may call it. It's not everyday that you receive such a generous offer, so consider yourself fortunate. This will really be a once in a lifetime event for you - something you will treasure for a long time.
