I've been wanting Calvin as our coach for a while. You'd better believe we'd be making our free throws.

I seem to remember one instance already of making an announcer into a head coach in Houston. The team overperformed with somebody not willing to take crap and who actually knew what he was doing. Worth a shot again.

Assistant coach would work as well....we just need to get his "winning, caring, kick ass" attitude in that locker room. I watch the recent games feeling like the game itself is just a pitstop and annoyance for a couple of the players between their bar hopping, partying scenes. Harden and Lawson look more into it at those nightclubs they have been frequenting (til late late into the night/morning) than they do on the court. Harden is a rare athlete who can party hard until daylight and then still put up 26 points that same day....guarentee you that Curry could not do that ;). Hoping that Murphy could instill some pride (and perhaps a curfew of 2 am or something) on nights before gameday. Probably unrealistic wishful thinking, but that is what it is going to take to get us to the Finals.

Rudy T & Calvin Murphy were / are best of friends ( roommates). It worked with Rudy T. Murphy as the coach till something better happens along may be a good thing. BUT Murph is NOT a Morey's man, and here is the rub. Murph is a Rocket and only a Rocket.

Murph would kick Harden, Lawsons & Howard's lazy a$$es. I think he would pull any player not playing their best or not for the TEAM out of the game. Win or not I would back a coach like that. He may not be the most popular with the TEAM at first but in a short time he would have the TEAM playing much better ball.

Did not know that Murphy and Morey were not very close....if true then that drops the odds of something like this happening significantly. Can't see Murphy telling the players NOT to attack the basket and just settle for threes like McHale does (through Morey) when down by 10+ points. The only way this would occur is if things keep going southward to the point that Les makes the call and dictates that the three point system (with no great 3 point shooters in it) goes out the door as well.

Is there anyone currently on the payroll with a longer tenure than Calvin?

Seriously though, Calvin is a huge part of what made me a fan and I couldn't be more biased about something like this.

Bill has been around along time, too. Calvin dropped out for a couple of years (family issued).

I almost insisted for refund for season tickets when they brought Murphy back for multiple reasons. I've been offered one on one autograph and photo offers, but have always declined. No!! (Oh and Rockets sent out several reminders I assume with few takers) And no to coach too !! He has too much baggage, and he should be behind bars.

No he was dropped due to character issues. Family and civil (falsified documents). I think everyone knows about the family issues.

Calvin Murphy is too removed from the game to make insightful decisions and he's too affable to give this team the discipline and direction they need. He's a step in the wrong direction if we fire McHale.

We need someone along the lines of Thibodeau, someone who inspires respect and fear. But we also need someone who's more progressive than Thibs, so we aren't playing Howard and Harden 42 minutes a game.

i really feel mario checks off our list for everything we need.

he's a no-nonsense disciplinarian will not hesitate to chew out, bench, or tough love any player on the team and at the same time get the players' respect. he's been an assistant coach the past decade with an exceptional track record of developing players (such as monta). 3-time champion as a player. we know he'd be the last guy to crumble under pressure in crunch time of an elimination playoff game.

and at the same time he is open-minded enough to make adjustments when necessary, rely on morey's statistical help, and bring his own new ideas to the offense/defense.
