Don't know if this one has been done yet, but I'll throw a couple out... Angel- Aerosmith I'll Be There For You- Bon Jovi Separate Ways- Journey And please, don't turn this into one of those typical "intellectual" music-bashing threads. You either like 'em or you don't.
I don't have all day, but... "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger "I Remember You" by Skid Row "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue "Open Arms" by Journey "Never Say Goodbye" by Bon Jovi "Heaven" by Warrant "Forever" by KISS "House of Pain" by Faster Pussycat "Dream On" by Aerosmith (the first??) "The Flame" by Cheap Trick I'm distinguishing between "ballad" and "power ballad", by the way...doesn't everyone? Oh, and a good power ballad MUST be cheesy....remember that.
There are many but I will go with these 4: Angel - Aerosmith (about the only Aerosmith song I like) Without You - Motley Crue Heading for a Heartbreak - Winger (hangs head in shame) Eyes Without a Face - Billy Idol
I AM NOT WALKING DOWN THE AISLE TO A POWER BALLAD! OK, now that I got the obligatory Simpsons reference out of the way Mama I'm Coming Home - Ozzy Every Rose Has It's Thorn - Poison November Rain - GnR Patience - GnR (not sure if this is a "power ballad", but it's still a cool song) BTW, post #1984! Orsen Wells would be proud...
bad Manny!!! bad, bad boy! Winger?? surely you don't mean the dancin-bassplayer Winger do ya? oh no say it aint so! Skids had a couple of good ones, "I Remember You" and "Quicksand Jesus" stand out for me. Motley Crue with " Home Sweet Home" Kiss had one of the ultimates with "Beth" Warrant.....damn...I'm just copying Freaks's list ok..i'll say that I agree with The Freak except for "Never Say Goodbye" (i dont really like Bon Jovi) and add: "Faithfully" --- Journey "Ballad of Jayne" ---LA Guns "Fly to the Angels" ---Slaughter "When the Children Cry" ---White Lion "Hell is for CHildren" ---Benetar "Don't Know WHat Ya Got(Till It's Gone) ---Cinderella "Love Song" ---Tesla enuff already....I could go on but, ok, 1 more tender little love ballad..... "I Used To Love Her, But I Had To Kill Her" ---GnR
Do they have to be hair bands to qualify? Silent Lucidity - Queensryche Unforgiven - Metallica All my Love - Led Zeppelin
Great calls on the following: House of Pain - Faster Pussycat Silent Lucidity - Queensryche Home Sweet Home - Motley Crue Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison But I'd like to add the following, probably against my better judgement: High Enough - Damn Yankees Cryin' - Aerosmith Carrie - Europe Only Time Will Tell - Asia Is This Love - Whitesnake The Deeper the Love - Whitesnake
there was a band called Kingdom Come and they had a power balled... all I remember is it had the line, "I'll be the tissue for your tears" what was the name of that song???
MONSTER BALLADS!!! Out of the ones in that link i like: REO Speedwagon - Can't Fight This Feeling INXS - Never Tear Us Apart (ooh...good one) Billy Idol - Eyes Without a Face GNR - Novemba Rain
Definition of a power ballad: A slow to mid-tempo song performed by a heavy metal band that usually has fairly quiet verses, loud, power-chord driven choruses and wanky, over-the-top guitar solos. Usually includes the word "baby" and references to a rainstorm. My only submission: Nobody's Fool - Cinderella Songs that I've seen that are NOT Power Ballads: All of My Love - Led Zepellin (No power chord choruses, no over-the-top guitar solo) Never Tear Us Apart - INXS (not a heavy metal band) Hell Is For Children - Pat Benatar (chorus is not slow or mid-tempo) Used to Love Her and Patience - Guns N' Roses (very close but no power chord choruses) BTW why would Orson Wells be proud of 1984? Did you mean George Orwell?
I'm not a classic rock, hard rock, whatever rock you want to call it kinda fan, but Steve Perry was awesome and the guitar intro to that song absolutely jammed. There are still times I pull that CD out just to listen to this one song. I'll vote for that one since you did, and because I really have no idea exactly what a "power ballad" is. Is it when real tough guys try to sing romantically, but they need to call it something other than a love song?
That is a keyboard at the beginning of that song. The guitar is only playing one chord until Steve starts singing. Scorpions- "Always Somwhere" Dokken- "Jaded Heart", "Slippin Away"
YES!! Great Song, but its not a power ballad. Maiden had never done a power ballad. busted by subtomic... you are correct, technically Hell is for Children is not a pb. but a great song nonetheless.. i knew I forgot some good calls on Silent Lucidity and High Enough also Great White had a great one called "Save Your Love" and finally, DoD I'm not sure Seperate Ways would be classified as a power ballad...cool song... but
