But according to reports, the Clippers sold him on playing there because of a defined role. That tells me that the Rockets either did a p-sspoor job pitching the guy on staying in Houston(ironically like the Clippers did the first time around with DeAndre) or Morey didn't really care about resigning Smith. There's something not adding up here. Something had to have gone wrong during the negotiations with the Rockets.

This moves worries me going forward. Josh Smith only signed a one year deal in LA. Dwight can opt out after next season. How realistic is it that they both try to team up after next season. And now that Deron Williams has signed a 2 yr deal with the Mavs......I could see this ending badly.
Yes, exactly. I liked JS, but he's replaceable. i don't really want to criticize him, but his free-throw shooting and shot selection frustrated me a little. He was a little too up and down for me. Morey is not done constructing the final playoff roster. I wish JS luck.
Are we counting people Morey should have signed or people that he has signed and then didn't do well for the Rockets? Which moves were mistakes? If they were mistakes what lingering impact did they have on the team? Dorsey wasn't a mistake by the way.
That's misleading. Smith shot a much more respectable percentage from downtown when he joined the Rockets.
Is there a section of this forum which has an age restriction? So many of these posts are outright embarrassing
Idiot Morey The guy who helped you beat the Clips and you get rid of him Now go get the guy who beat us - Stephen Curry to make up for this BS
A thread of two equally irrational stances. If you don't think this hurts the team, you are delusional. He was a very important reason the Rockets locked up the #2 seed, got by the Mavs, and came back against the Clippers. This late in free-agency, there isn't a replacement available at that price. Morey will have to give up assets to get similar quality at that position. If you are sitting back thinking that Morey is some demi-god and this is all part of the plan, you are equally as delusional. He has mixed a few decent moves with some good fortune and rode the back of Harden having a season that vastly exceeded many people's expectations to look like he is building something special. He completely screwed up the Parsons situation last year and plugged in an Ariza that wasn't as good as Parsons for 8x what he could have had Parsons for. A better value than Parsons at the max? Sure. A better deal than Parsons for $1MM? Not. Even. Close. Losing Smith is another blemish on his track record. If Harden isn't able to put up top #2 MVP candidate numbers again next year, the team is going to slip.
Josh Smith filled an important in-between role for us last year, but there's no reason to panic. He doesn't have many more miles in his legs. He can be the under-athletic big off the bench for Blake Griffin. We couldn't "guarantee" him that role on our team. However, Chris Paul is going to make Josh Smith look pretty good. That is, if he can stay out of their coach's doghouse. Bottom line: If we don't make some kind of upgrade (either at the point or at power forward), next year will be pretty rough.
