Denver for sure had checked with Silver on this if they proceed to waive him and absolutely will find a way not paying the rest amount. And considering Lawson still has 2 cases pending and very possible jail time, plus Silver will suspend him. No team will touch this guy at this moment even he will be waived.
Also, even Lawson will be waived by Denver and Denver refused to pay him, Lawson will also seek help from the union to sue Denver, it will be a mess. Only desperate team with idiot management like the Kings will even consider to sign him, and I still doubt it will happen.
If Denver was told by silver or the lawyer that they don't need to pay him for the rest of his contract, they will release him to gain some PR back. He is not in their plan moving forward and no one will touch this guy at the moment.
Also people tend to forget this is NBA, not NFL. Silver is a lawyer, he knows how important is the integrity of the league is to its future and value. If he and the other 29 owners will be willing to sacrifice Sterling to protect the league. You really believe some teams will be stupid enough to take a huge risk for a public outcry for Lawson? Get a grip.
His life is moving too fast for him right now. The only logical explanation is for him to come to Houston. We got what he needs. Spoiler
The source is NOT reliable. Also there are three teams that can claim off waivers. Portland and Philly and Orlando (they haven't signed Harris yet).
Portland already committed to the tank, not gonna get another PG behind Lillard that will just leave in two years. Philly potentially could pick him up, I just don't think they're planning to win anytime soon, and (like above), Lawson will bounce after 2 years.
When you get 2 DUI's in that short of a time period, it goes beyond 'making bad decisions'. He's an alcoholic and he can't just turn it off.
