MLE was around $3 million before, now $5.464 million = Josh Smith could end up making almost $11 million next year ($5.464 from MLE from HOU and $5.5 from DET payment) That is great news for Rockets fans who want Smith back.
For the rockets it means nothing. For other teams its great news. For smith and his new contract also potentially good . This numbers of capspace that were posted before u should add 3 million.
Zdont think that the number of the mle was the case with smith but the fact we didnt even offer it to him.

...However, if Smith gets full MLE from HOU (or elsewhere), he'll get paid $8.55M this season ($5.464M from new team, $3.09M from DET).
— David Weiner (@BimaThug) July 7, 2015

It means nothing for the Rockets. They were over the salary cap before the announcement and they are still over the cap. They can offer either Smith or KJ the non-Bird rights contract or something from the MLE. The Rockets have full bird rights for Jason Terry and salary cap is no issue for re-signing him.
The MLE was negotiated into the CBA. It hasn't changed and everyone knows exactly what the MLE will be every season through the the summer of 2021. This season: Non-Tax Payer MLE - $5.464 million Tax Payer MLE - $3.376 million The Rockets currently have the Non-Tax Payer MLE.

All exceptions; Tax, Room, Full, Bi-annual remain the same. As Crash said...

Significant jump in salary cap, luxury tax does not impact Rockets much. Operating over cap, anyway. Its bad for rockets. Well its not so bad but it certainly is not good. Because now its even less reason for someone like portland not to pp kj. I dont see why they wouldnt when they have so much capspace. I think they reach now 27 mil.
Lol, Feigen pretty much copied Bima's tweet

Higher salary cap may not help Rockets much, as they'll probably operate over the cap, but higher tax threshold gives them more wiggle room.
— David Weiner (@BimaThug) July 9, 2015

Its so comical its humiliating at this point. Dj should be ashamed of himself. I have lost every respect i had for him ( not that i had much in the first olace). I consider him after this saga one of the most fame whoring stupider players in the league.
The Rockets will need that tax wiggle room to make the improvements necessary to compete with an extra contender in LAC if DJ switches commitment.
Until we are in that situation, you can't judge the guy. All we know that's happening is what's being reported via Twitter and those reports are being fed to these reporters by other parties who have their own interests in what they feed them.
We don't really know what happened. Based on how Fegan handled Dwight, it's entirely possible he led DJ to Dallas through big promises that may not have been in his interests. Stein already said that Fegan disclosed his relationship with Cuban to DJ twice, but what does that even mean? Real estate agents do the same thing before selling you a house, but you still expect them to act in your interests....the fact is that sometimes they don't. Dallas never made sense to me. There are better opportunities for him, including the Clippers
Higher tax line only helps Les. There's no benefit for the Rockets this season in a higher than expected salary cap.
The Rockets are currently about 12 million below the Apron with Montrezl Harrell, KJ McDaniels, Josh Smith and Jason Terry not having agreed to contracts. They still have the 4.6 million fully un-guarunteed contract of KPap if they need the room to stay below the apron.
