Hmm... lets say that Beverley does sign with the Knicks for a salary starting at $8M. Under the Base Year Compensation Rules, if the Rockets manage to structure this as a sign and trade, Beverley will count as $4M (50% of $8M) outgoing salary. If the team somehow manage to fold this into a transaction for taking in a S&T max guy (like Aldridge), it's a useful chunk of salary to add to their existing balancing salaries (non-guaranteed Papanikaloau and Prigioni).
