Did one of our division rivals offer any of them a contract because they thought they were worth the money?

These are both very well thought out responses, I just disagree with the assessement. I think even if we were not desperate for a small forward the Memphis contract is very reasonable for the 26 year old Posey. Memphis already had a lot of swingmen and are in even worse financial shape with this offer and thought Posey brought enough needed ingredients to their team to try to get him at this money.

At the start of the offseason if you told be we could secure Posey for 22.8 million over 4 years I would have said fantastic. I am still a little shocked a team with only the MLE might get him away from us--I thought only the teams well under the cap were a threat. But oh well, we will see, I honestly don't think Posey will make or break the Rockets long term, though I think it is a low risk/good benefit move to match both in the short and long run. I would have thought this was one of the easier decisions our front office has faced in a long time aside from the picking Yao no brainer.

I don't think Posey as a nonRocket is a done deal by any stretch until the 15th passes or CD/JVG/Les says so.

He signed the Memphis deal. If we keep him we go over the tax, we then double the tax, we get no revenue and then he becomes a $12 million a year player.

Now, ask this very simple question as you see Posey running down the court with all that great athleticsm and skill....

"Mr Posey. Are you worth $12 million a year?"

For all those who are just a tad bit unaware of how money works in the real (or Fantasy) world, the answer is simply this -

James Posey is not worth $12 million. Thus, he will not be a Rocket. Could this be anymore clear?

except you are making a big assumption...

the fact that it is unknown at this point if the Luxury Tax will be instituted for the next years salaries...it has only gone into effect once..for this past year salaries...and most of the capologists have been saying that it isnt likely to for this coming year..
