I keep up some light practice to make everyone stay sharp, but they should mostly just be watching a lot of game tape and strategizing on how to beat the Spurs.

thats actually a big point, they should assume we're playing the spurs and build their strategy there because the clips are more matched to our style which is free flowing; i agree

Hey, Daryl Morey. We know you check this board. Here's a proposal. Have your staff start a thread here, inviting fans to come to TC to play the role of Spurs or Clippers fans. Have them sit behind the backboard, wave distracting props, and scream while Dwight and Capela and Josh Smith and Dorsey, and maybe Jones, shoot FTs. You need to simulate game conditions.

Name the time, and let people put their names on a list. Then you can work with the list.

Ariza shoots best when he can step into his shot. He's good at hitting the 3 off of a fast break because he can get a little step and shoot in rhythm.

He's not nearly as good of a shooter when he's just spotting up and standing still waiting for a pass.

Also, Ariza seems to rush his shots some, which result in him missing. But I guess he has to when a guy is closing out. The problem is that he has a slow release... so he has to rush just to get the shot off.

Josh Smith is the same way. When Josh can step into his shot and set his feet, he can knock them down.

Rest will be huge. A lot of our missed shots (especially from Ariza) came up short. Time off will give guys some time to get their legs back (will help on defense too) under them and mentally prepare them for Spurs/Clippers.

Shooting a bunch of free throws at this point does nothing. Rest up fellas!

Note that for most nba players, FTs is more a mental thing that a lack of practice thing. They shoot a lot of FTs already. They make them at a good clip, even our bigs. But actual playoff game when there is pressure?

It's much harder to tell them to go prepare mentally though...

Practice some freakin' defense instead. The Rox should be more concerned about that than anything for the next upcoming series.

Somewhat disagreed. I don't know the extent to which, or how strict, McHale was telling his guys to do stuff. But "Dwight, just relax and shoot some FTs" vs "Dwight, you're gonna get hacked to ish. Get the in the gym and SHOOT SOME FTs," carry different levels of importance.

While FTs shouldn't be the sole priority, it should definitely be a factor in practice.

    Hope the Spurs-Clips go 7.

the most important aspect of the game that the rockets need to work on during this time off is....

    free throws

Work on defensive schemes. Implement a few offensive plays. I think we can win the next round. Hell, I think we WILL win the next round. Everyone seems so tentative.
