Yep. It's a false dichotomy. It's not talent vs analytics. Morey is about getting 3 superstars and the right guys around them that fit under the salary cap.
It's hard to agree with every last word out of someone's mouth, especially someone like Charles. But it does seem that what we have been watching with the Rockets is throwing players up against the wall again and again until something sticks. It may be that those players have been analytically well chosen. One would hope that upper management has a vision of the type of players and the style of basketball and a plan in place to get to there. But it appears as though there is nothing long term, nothing even mid term, just churn and hope the numbers eventually pay off.
He'd make a perfectly legitimate point if he said that organisations place too much credence into statistics but that's not what he said. Charles is completely dismissive of analytics and their place in the game and that is completely ignorant and wrong. I mean seriously, does Charles think that Morey sits at his desk all day crunching numbers on spreadsheets without looking at a single piece of game footage?
He'd never hire a dude with cojones like Morey. Remember that he hired one of Morey's disciples and fired him in about a month because he actually expected to, as GM of the Mavericks, generally manage the team.
Barkley may say some idiotic things but how smart is any GM to be picking a fight with an analyst who is an NBA great and has national TV as his megaphone? Not Morey's brightest moment.
That's what happens when you try to land a franchise player without being allowed to tank. It worked too.
Was he really "picking a fight"??? The so-called "national analyst" was saying things that were flat-out factually incorrect.
This Barkley guy is a real idiot. TNT is gonna end up firing him because the guy has simply lost his mind.
If the rockets win the championship can you imagine what Dwight or Morey may say directly to Barkley during the post game celebration... I would love to see that.
You could become a Mavs fan, then he would own the team your support. Don't subject us all to his BS.
