Not really impressed by these highlights at all. Other than the block on Brook Lopez, I don't think he really did anything special. Blocking shots of point guards who are defended well and shooting nearly flat footed doesn't impress nor does wide open dunks. Maybe it was the awkward way he was throwing that hot garbage up at the rim. It went in, but I need to see him make those shots consistently before I get excited. Looked like lucky shots. Kind of like when Dorsey throws up hot garbage that goes in too. If he can get this kind of production every few games just because of his physical ability, we need to bring Clint Capela up RIGHT now and give him every one of Dorsey's minutes.
Lastly.... can people stop using the word "potential" and Whiteside in the same sentence. Jahil Okafor has potential. Whiteside has been playing professionally for 5 years now. Its more than likely he is who he is now. I don't blame Morey at all for signing Dorsey over Whiteside. At least we have seen that Dorsey, while a 3rd string level center, can at least be relied on to make good solid defensive hustle plays, and is a good rebounder at his size. Whiteside cannot, and would not have been relied upon for anything other than throwing a hissy fit every other day.
He didn't do anything special. He's just 7 feet tall with a 9'6" standing reach with great athleticism and strength for a man that big. He's a role player. Compare him to other big man role players in the NBA. Compare him to Dorsey. Sure it ain't no thang for him to throw down a dunk and block some shots. Because he's an athletic 7 footer with a standing reach of 9'6". That's what makes him special. He's an athletic 7 foot tall with a standing reach of 9'6". Some posters here are going to be clamoring for us to add Dally when the Knicks turn him loose here in a little bit. At the respective stages of each man's career.....Whiteside is a superior player on the court than Dally is. And all the talk about Rox didn't add him because they had him at RGV and they "know" something about him...........is pure bull. He's a better player than Dorsey. He's better than half the backup centers in the NBA right now. Not because he's a great player that has this great potential. But because he is 7 foot tall with a 9'6" standing reach and is athletic enough to get up and down the floor and strong enough that he can't be pushed around underneath anymore. Whiteside was at RGV with Tim Ohlbrecht, Vernon Macklin, Donuts, Terrence, and Greg Smith. He didn't get substantial minutes because there weren't minutes to be had. We were developing the NBA guys and they were all going to play ahead of him irregardless of how well he played. And he was acquired midseason through trade. Whiteside produced amazingly in the few minutes he was given down there. We just had other priorities at that time with the guys I mentioned above.
He would be an excellent backup to Howard and DMo - a good shot blocking big, I think he has finally found his niche in the league. DD
Always had the talent. Rockets took an extended look at him but the flip never switched during that look. Can't blame them there. Took him a minute but hes finally looking like a player.

Nice to see him having a good game. Hope he can keep it up. This season may have been his last chance, if he didn't improve.
He was in the NBA with Sacremento, and basically got cut....he has had to work his way back. He is not a guy that shows a lot of emotion on the floor, but he is always a big mobile 7 footer with a good touch. DD
I hope Dwight is watching, see how easy it is to put u great numbers if you play through you strengh.
There are a lot of players in the NBA that don't play to their strengths, we have a couple in Smith and Howard...... It is hard to look at your own game and realize their are significant weaknesses, and try to avoid them... Dwight wants to be known as an all around Center -that ship has sailed...he will never be that player, but he can be insanely good as a PnR offensive player and a great defensive player - if he embraces who he really is. Smith - well, uh - yeah.....chucker. DD
