His veteran leadership an experience is needed on this team. Carl, you realize the spurs won the championship last year with old dudes too. I like the balance between Beverly and Terry. Much better than last year. I doubt Terry is part of the package. He only gets traded to another contender, a young team people doesn't want him and he probably doesn't want to be part of a young team. Enjoy it Carl. we're winning.
If no Rocket is hitting the 3, it would be Jason Terry that could still hit his. That specialty alone makes him a valuable asset to the team... More so than say Jones or Canaan and even Papa..
Why on earth would you want Beverley on the bench? We need his D on starting PGs (Westbrook, Paul, Lillard, et al.)
I hated Jason Terry up until he became a Rocket. But now i see what he brings, even though he is 37 you cant develop or draft a locker room presence that he brings. Plus he is a cold blooded three point shooter. Across the board Morey has brought in veteran leadership/experience... Out(players who had no veteran leadership, experience): Parsons Lin Asik Casspi In(players who have veteran leadership. experience): Ariza Terry Brewer Smith(TBD) Look at the Rockets in close game situations...there isn't this panic anymore, they seem way more relaxed, like Aaron Rodgers.

Key to Rockets 21-7 record? Just came across this.
No reason to remove him from the rotation. Give him some minutes to keep the touch. Barring trades, he'll be very useful coming playoffs time.
Jason Terry is nothing special. "Veteran leadership" is a buzzword that doesn't mean a whole lot. So far this season, the Rockets get outscored by opponents by 1.8 points per 100 possessions with Terry on the court, and outscore opponents by 8.9 points per 100 possessions with Terry off the court. They are significantly better both offensively and defensively with Terry on the bench. Obviously, these numbers have to do with who he's playing with and against. But even when you adjust for these factors via ESPN's "Real Plus Minus," Terry still a very subpar -2.19, which ranks 342 out of 442 NBA players listed. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/page/12/sort/RPM And this isn't just a matter of small sample size, his numbers have been in this neighborhood for a few years. Other information also confirms that Terry is nothing special overall. He shoots well from 3s, but that's pretty much all he does-- 70% of his FGA are 3 point shots. He is useful if you can just have him do this and nothing else. Unfortunately, we do often need him to do some stuff when Harden sits or when the team requires someone other than Harden to make a play. Too often, unless Harden is doing all the heavy lifting, this team's offense sputters as no one could create any good shots for himself or teammates. He turns the ball over at a 14.8% rate, which is high especially for a guy who doesn't get to the FT line or make many passes that result in assists. Pat Beverley, by contrast, has a TO% of 11.4% playing a similar role. And you can see why Terry would have such a high TO rate, too. He doesn't have very good handles so when he tries to do anything with the ball or faces pressure, he tends to throw the ball away. A couple games ago, he lost the ball for a "pick six" just dribbling near half-court and the other team trapped him. His "veteran savvy" didn't prevent that turnover, and many other turnovers. On defense, he can't keep up quickness at PG or size at SG individually. He also gets killed on screens. He knows where to be on defense, but this still does not save him from being a rather negative defender. Overall, Jason Terry is a fine specialist, but also an imminently replaceable player at a position where the Rockets need someone with skill that Terry just doesn't have any more. If Morey needs $5.8M of expiring contracts thrown into a trade to make the money work, Morey should not hesitate including Terry in a trade. There will be plenty of players who can be had for practically nothing via trade and buyout candidates to be signed off the street after the trade deadline who are just as good as Terry, if not better.
JET is great, but I'm a little sad that he's taking away minutes from Canaan, who has proven to be NBA ready. He can do everything Terry can do and then some. Maybe the idea is to try to keep his value down until we can extend him for cheap? Heh.
This is what I see as well. I think the focus is what is our best five during closing time and during the playoffs. I'm pretty sure it's beverly, harden, Ariza, smith or dmo, howard. If we can improve this closing lineup by getting dragic, we will do it. Terry's role as a bench contributor is fine, but with our current depth levels, it's not a big deal. His value is much more tied to his ability to help upgrade our best five.
