Or maybe you just don't know what you are talking about. Yeh I think thats it. If you can't see how much better he would be over Dorsey you should stop watching basketball.
That's why Morey has been after Josh Smith for nearly 2 years, he LOVES horrible players. Another brilliant Bobby take.
Firstly I advocate the move as long as it's for the biannual exception. But to counter your point you are not considering the context that basketball is more than individual talent. Individually Josh Smith is worldly compared to Dorsey and 80% of our roster. But as a franchise like the Spurs show time and time again the value of teamwork, chemistry both on the court and in the locker room, and structure simply cannot be understated. Dorsey is a mediocre basketball player, no ones debating that, but he recognizes his limitations. For example he will never shoot you out of a game or whine about shots or playing time or more importantly take possessions away from your best players. There is a pertinent risk that Josh Smith could do all of those things and hurt a pretty good thing we have going on right now.
In before someone calls this the Rocket's 2014 Christmas present from Detroit. Morey needs to make sure to send them a fruitcake or something....
Well Dorsey is a center. And smith is a sf/pf. So what you are saying is irrelevant. Is Smith better for this team than D-Mo and Papa? Because those are the guys who will lose pt.
Smith was unmotivated playing on a garbage team out of position. He'd be coming to a contender with multiple veteran players and his best friend. And you'd get him for $2.7m. There's virtually no downside to signing him. If he plays well you can package DMo or TJones at the deadline for Dragic. You have to be braindead to not be in favor of a Smith signing. There's a reason every contender is itching to sign him. It's an absurdly low risk deal.
Honestly - I don't see how we miss out on Smith. Unless he wants to stay in the East, there isn't another top tier/playoff team with decent playing time up for grabs at the PF slot. Golden State wouldn't dare mess with chemistry and they seem happy with Draymond's fit there. Then it's LaMarcus, Zbo, Blake, Dirk, and Duncan - all guys who Smith would have to sit behind. Houston can offer up at least 25-30 minutes a game in the Dwight/Dmo rotation(personally I think Dmo is still a starter even with Smith)
Yeah, we have the best total package and it isn't really close. We're the only ones who even offer the chance of starting. And the most money. And he gets to play with a really good friend. And he knows the org has gone for him in the past and thus has confidence in him.
Who cares what position they play? It's about what each player would actually contribute. Dorsey is good for nothing but average rebounding and six fouls a game. Smith would allow us to have a much more versatile front court rotation. He would also add much needed weekside shot blocking and passing to the front court.
Josh Smith is a better 2nd creator than anything we currently have. Not to say that is a recipe for championship success but it is an upgrade.
What type of stupid comment is that? Smith would take over D-Mo's and Papa's minutes. That's actually a really relevant conversation. It's not like smith would just come in and take Dorsey's 4 minutes a game. Thats what you're equating it to. We already have this guy on our roster who when he comes back does the exact same things that Smith does. His name is Terrence Jones. Smith will hurt the chemistry of this team for guys like motiejunas and Papa.
can anyone here comment on the tax implications of josh choosing a texas team over, for instance, the clips? meaning, would his ongoing salary from the pistons be exempt from michigan state tax and it just gets subject to TX or CA tax treatment?
He would push out Black/Dorsey. DMo would play PF/C backing up Dwight and Smith. A Howard/Smith/DMo frontcourt rotation is better than Howard/DMo/Dorsey/Black.
Good Josh Smith is what the organization hoped Jones would develop into. It's possible they could get that player with the biannual exception. It's a no-brainer.
I co-sign this. ....don't make me watch Black or Dorsey struggling out there anymore. This team is too good to have to suffer through that.
