Christmas jerseys were nice. I liked them more than our regulars. For 3 games are very good.

Yes, the accusation came from the beginning, but I thought it was BS the whole time and still do.

    Cold Warrior?

I think there is a point where its appropriate for a political conflict to enter politics. Athletic shunning of Apartheid South Africa, or the condemnation of Dennis Rodman's trips to North Korea come to mind. I just don't think that's where we are in our relationship with China. China is like the friend with an alcohol problem we're hoping they can overcome and not so much like the jerk at the bar we're going to suckerpunch when he goes into the parking lot.

I think it's a bit overwrought to say signing a Chinese player is selling your soul. Marketing may have been too much of a concern when picking up Lin, but I don't think Les crossed the line to eternal damnation on that one transaction.

Yeah, they would. But, I don't think its even necessary to have enough critical mass in a demographic identity to justify it. It's just cool to celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of our city. That's why I think Cajun jersies would be cool even though I'm not Cajun. We see the influences Cajuns have had on Houston and it's fun to celebrate it. Just like its fun to celebrate Cinco de Mayo even though we're not Mexican (and even though Mexicans themselves don't make a big deal of it), and St Patrick's Day even though we're not Irish (those of us who aren't, anyway). In that vein, Chinese New Year is a cultural celebration white Americans like me have adopted from foreign cultures anyway. Even though I'm not Chinese, doing a little theme night for Chinese New Year will be fun, just like green jersies for St Patrick's Day would be fun, or Christmas jersies for Christmas is fun. You don't have to actually identify with any particular cultural sub-heritage to partake in these celebrations -- being American is enough. I actually don't see these Chinese unis as being aimed primarily at Chinese; I see them aimed at the mainstream audience as a nod toward's the NBA cosmopolitan culture, with only secondary audiences of Chinese-Americans who will appreciate being recognized and Mainland Chinese who'll get a kick out of seeing the fruits of their culture pop up on the other side of the globe. So, I'm all for alternates for Chinese, for Cajuns, for the Irish, for Breast Cancer Awareness, for Vietnamese Sandwiches, or whatever else they want to do. It doesn't take away from me at all.

Who cares one way or another but an alternate uniform they are wearing 3 times??

Wake me up when the fix the everyday uniforms which are the worst looking in the entire NBA, and have been for almost 20 years.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I have a question. What's the yellow tag on the back of the collar of the Rockets jerseys say? Is it just a manufactures logo, or does it serve a purpose?

"2x Champs"....every team that has won a championship has that yellow tag, along with the number of times they have won it

Every team that has won a championship has that tag, it says how many times you've won the title. So ours says 2X with a small image of the trophy next to it.

Oklahoma City technically has a championship, however, they don't wear the gold tag.

[rQUOTEr]Houston, TX – Houston Rockets Owner Leslie Alexander announced today that the team will wear specially designed Lunar New Year uniforms to celebrate the Chinese New Year with its largest international fan base. The team will wear the uniforms on three occasions.

“The Lunar New Year uniforms represent a great opportunity to honor our incredibly loyal and passionate fans throughout China,” said Houston Rockets Owner Leslie Alexander. “From the time the Rockets participated in the first live NBA television broadcast in China on June 8, 1994, to my selecting Shanghai’s native son Yao Ming with the first overall selection of the 2002 NBA Draft, to our participation in the first NBA China Games in 2004, the Rockets have always enjoyed a very special bond with our fans across the region. We are thrilled and humbled to establish the Lunar New Year uniforms as a way to honor the culture, heritage and historical and future connection we’ll always enjoy with our Chinese fans.”

“It brings great joy to me to see the Houston Rockets honor one of my country’s most important traditions,” commented Rockets legend Yao Ming, “Mr. Alexander and the Rockets have long embraced our culture and customs and made basketball fans in China a part of the Rockets community. I’m excited to ring in the Year of the Goat watching the Rockets wear the Lunar New Year uniforms.”

The Rockets Lunar New Year (LNY) jerseys will debut on Sat., Feb 21, vs. Toronto for the Rockets annual Lunar New Year Game, presented by Kenda Tires. Additionally, the LNY jerseys will be worn on Mon., Feb. 23 vs. Minnesota and Wed., Feb. 25 vs. the Los Angeles Clippers, coinciding with the Rockets week-long Lunar New Year Celebration.

The Rockets Lunar New Year jerseys will be available for purchase at the Rockets Team Shop beginning on Tue., Jan. 27. In addition to being open during all Rockets home games, the Rockets Team Shop is open from 11:00AM to 5:00PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and from 10:00AM to 3:00PM on Saturdays

The National Basketball Association (NBA) will pay tribute to its largest international fan base Feb. 19 to Mar. 4 with its biggest ever Chinese New Year Celebration, ushering in the Year of the Goat with millions of fans in China, the U.S. and around the world.

The celebration will feature a record 56 live games broadcast and streamed in Greater China, showcasing 27 of the 30 NBA teams; the debut of “Surprise Door,” the first NBA Chinese New Year television spot, which embraces the diversity of the league’s fans; the unveiling of the first Chinese New Year uniforms; and the tip-off of the Chinese New Year Celebration Season of Giving initiative to support underprivileged communities in China.[/rQUOTEr]
