DISCLAIMER TO EVERYONE. I've eaten Halal guys many times in NYC. They have made me violently ill. TWICE. Will never eat there again.
I ate at that Jones Chicken place and wow does that place suck! Meat tasted like it was at least a few days old and their special spicy sauce tasted like crap.
Kati Roll in Houston? If you are every in NYC, you have to try this place called Kati Roll, it is amazing! Has anyone ever found anything in Houston that makes anything even close to resembling this? I've been looking forever with no luck. I've tried the rolls at Bombay Pizza company, and they dont even come close.
Halal Guys are ok. I could do without the attitude from them. My wife went to NYU in the 90's and she said the quality used to be much better.
Halaal Bros in Austin is great. Portions are a little smaller compared to the NYC original, but it tastes great. I've had Jones Fried chicken lamb over rice and it was terrible.
Haha right Vanity. You're right on the money with that. Halal Timmy Chan's. I really wish they'd change the name of the place tho. Jones Fried Chicken when Fried Chicken is barely what people come to eat (though it is still good). "Halal Jones" would be more like it. They did briefly have a second location in the Memorial City/Spring Branch Area but under a different name. "BZ Grill - NY Style Halal" I lived close by and it was exactly the same menu-wise as Jones Fried. They closed down after 2 months, it was a bummer.
If I wanted Mediterranean food, is that the same as Halal? Please someone educate this dumb American and hit me with a 2X4, AAAEEEHHOOOHHHH!!!!!
Al Aseel has that "Palestinian Chicken" that was mentioned earlier in this thread, it goes by Musakhan Chicken. Absolutely fantastic http://www.yelp.com/biz/al-aseel-grill-and-café-houston
Mamouns ftmfw! So damn good and that hot sauce is insane.... Picked up a bottle last time I was there but have been too afraid to use it Halal guys is legit though.... Definitely don't think it's overrated. Another awesome spot is Kati roll... In fact last time we were in nyc we crushed some mamouns and immediately walked a few blocks over to Kati roll.
A place similar to that in Chicago is this place I loved to go to when I was living there called Bombay Wraps. Their menu is pretty simple, and they don't have too many selections but anything I've tried there has usually been pretty good.
Chicken is extremely bland, no flavor whatsoever. They're breading is good but thats about it, and their hot sauce or whatever? Not what I want with my chicken.
