I love the following pretty equally depending on my mood or what I want to hear (favorite song on each album in parentheses):

    Achtung Baby (Ultraviolet)
    Unforgettable Fire (Bad)
The Joshua Tree (One Tree Hill)
All That You Can't Leave Behind (When I Look At The World)
How To Build An Atomic Bomb (Original Of The Species)
No Line On The Horizon (Stand Up Comedy).

I don't like the first three as much (I'm no U2 hipster) and don't dig the new one either. Zooropa and Pop are both really enjoyable.

I still think Achtung Baby was U2's response to the Manchester Sound of the late 80's.

FACT. And the fact is there are legal papers drawn up against the band by the Stone Roses over one of the songs on the LP.

What about all the Edge guitar rifts?

    The Unforgettable Fire.

The Edge + Brian Eno + Daniel Lanois = Classic Album

Surprised it's not getting that many votes here. It's always been my favorite U2 album. It's actually one of my favorite albums of the 80's by any band.

The riffs that he stole from Keith Levene?

Look, I like U2 and admire how long they have stayed relevant but like all long-running bands, they have some things about them that are somewhat annoying. Edge's proclaimed greatness is one of those as well as the pomposity of Bono.

My favorite quote about Bono was from legendary krautrock producer, Conny Plank. The story goes something like this:
"It is the mid-1980s and a British colleague introduces a German producer to a band from Dublin, Ireland. The Brit is convinced the German is the right man to produce the band’s next album. However, after a brief meeting with the band, the German comes to a completely different conclusion. “I cannot work with that singer,” he says, turning the job down. “That singer” was Bono Vox, the band U2, the album The Joshua Tree, the British producer Brian Eno and the German producer Conny Plank. This story is typical of Conny Plank. His contemporaries describe him as an extremely amiable producer, yet he could quickly forget all graciousness when it came to issues like work ethic and the ignorance of the media and the music industry."

I like their music, and that sound is great, but in terms of being a guitar player... imagine him without his delay effect. It would sound like a little kid playing one note every ten seconds.

My bandmates and I used to joke that he could go grab a beer during his guitar solos since the effects were doing everything.

Absolutely brother. I don't know if people really gave those albums a deep listen because of Bono dressing up like Mephisto.

    Faves:
    Zooropa:"Lemon"
    Pop:"Last Night on Earth"

It was between Boy and War, but in the end War won out. My favorite song from the album is 'Two Hearts. 'I love their early punk, garage sound and the rebellious teen persona they had at the time before they matured and refined their music.

f***in' hell chris martin sucks ass. he butchered with or without you...dont try to sing songs if you cant hit the notes...dude has very limited range. considering his awful band went from ripping off radiohead to ripping off U2, you would think he would have done a better job.

say what you will about bono and his schtick, but he really has a great voice.

as for the thread the correct answer is war.
