The US Civil War was about slavery. Saying otherwise would mean having to ignore the events that lead to the war (the annulment crisis, previous southern secession movements). The Scottish Independence on the other hand, I have no clue about. My guess is, Scotland is already its own country and people decided that independence means having to take on new and different responsibilities. Why rock the boat?
