At least it makes things more i teresting than nothing happening. I hope he plays with more confidence than omri.
Agree, but you really strengthen your bench with TJ and DMO coming off of it, who knows just a wild thought. Hard to tell what they do cuz I've never seen this kid Pap play. But interesting that they add Ariza (defense) Capella (defense), Johnson (defense), Pap (defense), Dorsey (defense) and Adrien (defense). Now its going to be interesting as to who they hire as their defensive coach because god do they need one. Defense seems to be the theme this off season for Morey.
So he was drafted by one of the best front offices in the NBA... and a throwaway by the Trailblazers in the TRob trade. Lowry...No LeBron...No Melo...No Bosh...No Lull...No Miller...No Nelson...No Everyone else, but Ariza ...No. So $4.8 mil for a defensive specialist. Seems like a hail mary pass by Morey. He's basically putting his job in the hands of this guy. His Euroleague stats
I'm no Morey apologist, but you are just whining. True best-player-on-the-team, max free agents resign with current teams more than they move. Witness 2014.
I've said all along he shouldn't have been chasing those guys. He should've been finding replacements for Asik and Lin and building the bench.
Yup Pap is not a defensive specialist. He's more of a do-it-all player, can heat up from long range, great moving off the ball, doesn't turn over the ball and does his fair share of defensive work and then some. Think of him as a chandler parsons without the turnovers, better defense but less athletic and less ego. If we could get a similar per-minute offensive production from him as we did from chandler, with better defense, I would consider this a win.
I was going to put quotes around defensive specialist, but decided not to at the last minute because if he's not that then what is he?
Morey is not putting his job in this guys hands - I don't understand how you could even think that. This is basically a one year deal with the chance of extending him, if he exceeds expectations. That means he gives us one year to look at him. He will be a very tradeable asset. Either he can actually play, then he is a guy other team actually wants - or he is just a nice expiring contract. If we want to trade for a really good player, we need the salary to do so. Now the only downside is, that we can't use that capspace to sign anybody else to the MLE. Marion was probably the only real target left here and there is a reason he is still on the market. As for Allen, we probably could still get him for the BAE, if he wants to play for us. So Morey is not putting his job into anybodys hands. All he is doing is using his capspace to get a good look at a talented Euro-guy and turning his capspace into another asset. Not necessary a great signing, but definetly not a terrible signing either. Worst case he is a 4 million expiring contract for us.
He's a very mature and fundamental player, who can help the Rox fulling the 3 immediately even at the beginning of next season.

Although mature players have limited potential, they are easier to be traded. Morey was looking for help at 3, and wanted to retain a high degree of flexibility.
Marion is someone people know that has actually played in the NBA for over 10 years and is proven to be a very good defender and role player. KP might have potential to be better than that but that's as guaranteed as the second year of his contract
Hes 24, young players don't get much playing time in Europe. He is playing at the highest level there, averaging 25 MPG dropping 7 PPG. Played with PatBev in Greece, played with Dorsey in Spain. And his contract is not that bad, its one guaranteed year. Next year. If he is good, we keep him. If he is not, that one nonguaranteed year is quite useful trading chip.
