People you have to understand, by matching Parson, we are dommed with no room to sign other star players. Not to mention we cant even trade Parson for Love if available. This is a bad ending for us during the whole Lebron saga. Bosh should of come to us, but at the end it was all about money. Which it really hits home with Morey, he should remember NBA is all about money. This is exactly why we keep our flexibility open. We can talk all we want about many things, but 99% of the players will only go to the ones with the highest payout.
Saying Morey is an "idiot" is just knee jerk reaction to the disappointment so far. But Morey does look pretty bad so far this offseason. It doesn't help that the company line of not matching is "Howard-Harden-Parsons" isn't a championship core. This says a lot about how this team has been built from day one, not just this offseason. Assuming that statement is truly what they feel, and not just an excuse for saving money on Parsons, then it says a lot about how they feel about the Howard-Harden tandem. They basically concede that they cannot build a championship team around H-H. They need a third star. This is especially important given that Morey is supposed to be a genius in getting good role players. So good role players aren't good enough for H-H to win it all. We all know that a 3-star formula is not an absolute necessity for winning big. There have been plenty of 2-star or even 1-star championship teams. Of course, it's not all Morey's fault that H-H is not good enough. Landing franchise players is as much about opportunity/luck as GM skills. It's just kind of disappointing that we are still a long way to go.
I was not specifically saying you thought Dirk was not a max player, I was putting that because I figured someone would argue that point. I agree the Mavs overpaid for Parsons but again its minimized because that was the plan all along to get someone the Mavs see as a budding start. Dirk taking 10 mill makes that possible. Don't underestimated what Carlisle can do for a players career in taking him to another level...see monta.
I have been thinking of a way to describe how he looks, and that's the best. He also manages to look like a club douche at the same time.
Stop trying to minimize the holes this team has. Yes Parson did not play up to par against Portland. But keep in mind he leads the league in minutes played and was probably wore out, on top of being a average defender to begin with. We lost because Harden was a no show 95% of the time, and the fact Moreyball is a one trick pony. Also the coach Morey hired sucks. That's just stupid, and nothing but blind praise given to a GM that truly doesn't deserve it. He's a good GM. Best in the league? Lmao. We haven't even got out the 1st round with the same 2 superstars you conveniently brag about, but somehow you've annointed Morey the league's best GM? Idiotic. Just stop it Only mistake? This is what happens when you're more a fan of the GM than the team. Daryl Morey's made several mistakes during his tenure. One of the more recent ones was gambling WAY too much for a 3rd star when we don't need one. Morey's main priority should've been filling in the holes. But he chose to go star chasing when the odds were never good. Carmelo says no, move on. Bosh says he's waiting Lebron, ok nice meeting with you. Morey gambled but didn't properly prepare for every scenario which is very stupid. Stop painting this picture of Morey that he's above everybody else. HE'S NOT
Morey and his team has a game plan that they think will work out.. obviously they took a risk and it didn't play out the way they wanted.. the last thing they wanted going in was to let Parsons leave for nothing and that's exactly how it played out in the end, on top of not getting any big name FA. I don't thing Bosh was seriously considering Houston anyways. He was going to take a pay cut to be Lebron's b**** had Lebron returned to Miami.
Disappointing to lose Parsons, but let's see how the rest of the offseason shakes out before rendering an opinion as to how the team will do in 2014/15. It's July and there are no games to be played until later October. So, any roster deficit that the team may have at this moment is not an emergency. I'm guessing that Morey is, as he should, try to swing an improbable trade for a top player at the moment before looking at secondary and "safety school" options. The team isn't doomed or anything. Still got Howard, still got Harden. And that's two assets that many other teams dream of having. I think Parsons, Lin and Asik are useful players, but perhaps they are not as useful on this roster as they would be at their new homes. Asik isn't going to play that many minutes with Howard because of their matching deficiencies. Parsons and Lin can do some things with the ball, which they don't necessarily have as many chances to do as they otherwise could have because Harden is better at these things than they are. Best of luck to them, but there are ways to address their absence.
Can people stop comparing the Mavs to the Rockets? The Rockets are better in almost every department on the court. Mavs are only better than the Rockets when it comes to coaching. Bev > Donut Felton Harden >>>> Ellis Ariza = Parsons Tjones <<< Dirk Howard >>> Chandler Rockets are not done wheeling and dealing while the Mavs are pretty much set.
I would gladly bet you that the Mavs have a better record and go deeper in teh playoffs then the Rockets this year. Mavs have got better than last year while the Rockets have got worse. Mavs already did better then the Rockets did in the playoffs last year by taking the champs to 7 games while the rockets lost in 6 to a very inferior Blazers squad.
Yea not to mention the fact that our team was one of the youngest and their team one of the oldest...oh wait.
