also, it won't go over well telling dwight and howard that we didn't resign parsons and improve the team because we didn't want to pay too much. dwight is opting out in 2 years anyways, let's try and stack our team now to win.
I don't think Morey will match Parsons. Ariza's per 36 and per pos numbers are pretty close to Parsons numbers and he's a better defender. We get better as a team with Ariza starting. Parsons can't guard PF's so it's moot to keep him @ almost double what Ariza will be making. Yea Parsons is younger and is a "glue" guy, but he'll also be under tremendous pressure to prove he's worth his contract. I can see some players being jealous and resentful of Parsons because he hasn't "earned" max money yet. I also think Morey will make a value decision and possibly a "you f'ed with the wrong guy" statement to Parsons. I think bridges were burned and lines were crossed. Les probably isn't happy with Parsons. Don't forget what his ex said... something like "I feel sorry for the next girl". Maybe we should feel sorry for Dallas.
Remember how last season fans were complaining that Harden and Parsons played too much and exhausted at the end of the year? Does anyone believe the Rockets are going to do the same thing by not matching? It would be beyond stupid to not match Parsons and have Harden/Ariza play 40 minutes all the time.
You match and trade him or Ariza down the road. You match because you said you would. You match to keep Parsons away from a divisional rival.
parsons is not worth the 15m, let him go and get new players parsons is not doing to win you a championship
Last season, McHale could have played Harden less while the Lin-Bev back court lineup gave pretty decent production. But did he? No. I am guessing the Parsons-Ariza tandem is going to reduce Jones-DMo's minutes rather than Harden's. Anyway, I have the feeling that Parsons-Ariza is going to be similar to Lin-Beverley, only without the Lin fans frenzies. And the contracts are much bigger. I am really curious what Morey told Ariza to sign that contract.
I agree he is not worth a Max offer sheet. Some are clouded by the frustration of this free agency period and are letting their emotions hinder their judgement at the moment.
Parsons is an asset....even at 15mill. We sign him for sure or we have don't have enough depth, even with Ariza.
Last season there weren't a lot of games when everyone was healthy. Lin had his nagging injuries much of the season and Beverley had two stints on the DL. In games where everyone's healthy, Lin played quite a bit of 2-guard.
I think the Rockets absolutely match and here is my reasoning. Les has always been willing to go up to the Luxury Tax Threshold. He has stated that for the right players he would be willing to go over the threshold. After signing Ariza, the Rockets could match Parsons contract, still give Daniels a nice contract, sign Nick Johnson, Clint Capela with one roster spot still open and a lot of room before reaching the threshold. Code: Dwight Howard $21,436,271 James Harden $14,728,844 Chan Parsons $14,700,000 Trever Ariza $8,600,000 Terrence Jones $1,618,680 D Motiejunas $1,483,920 Troy Daniels $1,500,000 Josh Powell $1,310,286 Omri Casspi $1,063,384 Clint Capela $991,000 Pat Beverley $915,243 Isaiah Canaan $816,482 R Covington $816,482 Nick Johnson $900,000 Total Salary $70,880,592 The new Tax Threshold is $76,825,000 per team. The Rockets would still be 6 million dollars away from the tax threshold. As BimaThug suggested earlier, the Rockets could turn their trade with NO for Asik into a 3 way trade in order to get Ariza on a sign and trade which would preserve the MLE, Bi-Annual and JLin Trade Exceptions. 1. $6 million below the Tax Threshold 2. 1 available roster spot 3. Non-Tax Payer Mid Level Exception worth $5,305,000.00 4. Bi-Annual Exception worth $2,732,000.00 5. JLin Trade Exception worth $8,500,000 6. 1st round probable lottery pick 2015 7. 4 non-guaranteed contracts (Powell, Casspi, Beverly & Covington) worth $4,105,395 total It makes no since to not match Chandlers contract from a basketball standpoint either. Ariza and Daniels would go a long way on reducing the minutes of both Chandler Parsons and James Harden while adding quality 3 point shooting (something the Rockets were sorely missing last season). The only thing left is what do you do with the 15th roster spot? Ryan Anderson (via TE and Draft Pick)? Omeka Okafor? I would suspect that Daryl Morey would leave that spot open for now just to see if someone becomes available during the season, then he has a roster spot and trade exception or MLE to do his magic.
Yes, we match Parsons. Ariza is the back-up wing we need, he isn't a starter anymore. Leaves us open to still go small with Chandler at the 4 at times and we can also lower his minutes since he played so much last season. Adds depth, plus we keep our exceptions to improve the bigs on the bench.
you meant: "some are clouded by serious lack of knowledge on how the CBA works, and don't understand the consequences that not spending tax dollars to improve the team can have on your current superstars and free agents in the future"
