Plan A,B were about superstars. Plan C was about a borderline Allstar Every other plan is all role player role player role player
To be fair, our no play offense was highly successful the last two years, including in the playoffs... And, btw, happens to be the same offense the champs run .... No real plays. Defense is another story. McHale needs a TON of help there. It is interesting to note that i never think of the 80s Celtics as defensive powerhouses or anything. There are probably better coaches out there... BUT thinking McHale is the reason players don't come here is ludicrous. For one, what players? Bosh? Please, dude got more money and took it. Btw Dwight DID come here. For two, Melo may stay in NY with Fisher as his coach, Lebron choice a rookie coach. For three, might as well blame Harden S much if not more than Mchale... Since he refuses to consistently play d. DM is trying to improve he players first. Bosh was that improvement defensively. He's gone. DM has looked at other options that generally make sense defensively ... Like Deng for example. We won't get him for salary reasons but he's being looked at because he's Parsons with defense.
How bad we are? Just look at last yr play off line up, McHale consistently using 7-8 man rotation. Now 2 out of that group is goner and 3rd is borderline gone as well, what we do to replace them is uncertainty let alone to improve roster. That's where we are right now.
Yes, trades of Lin and Asik not a big deal even though we didn't get Big FA. They were out the door soon anyway. Situation with Parsons is different. By not taking 4th year option, the Rickets lost him as a trade chip. The Rockets lost the chance to see how he would have improved this year to see whether he deserves max. The lost the chance to play FA market next year with the possibility still of re-signing Parsons without yet being committed to him. I think Morey assumed we would re-sign Parsons, but Cuban has pushed him into a very difficult position.
Dumping Lin was addition by subtraction. Asik didn't want to be here so that was only a matter of time. Morey did his best to clear the space to get a 3rd superstar, but it takes two. Nothing he can do if they don't want to come here. Parsons was going to get paid one way or another and we all knew that. We will still have money to fortify our bench and role players with the cap space from Lin/Asik. I just hope Morey doesn't do anything stupid and overpay a marginal player as a reactive move, but that's not his style so I'm not too concerned about it. At the end of the day, I think we will wind up with Rondo.
