Sorry, if this has been mentioned on some other thread: I heard on the radio today that if we sign Bosh and then match Parsons, we have to drop TJones and Dmo--to free up 3.7M. I we don't care about DMo, but is signing Parsons to max worth losing TJones? We need a decent bench.
No affordable replacements if they are signing Bosh to the max. Best case scenario (assuming you lose Chandler) is renouncing Parsons, sign and trade for Bosh and then use the MLE to add wing players. Sucks. The whole point was that we'd have a legit mini fab four between Harden/Parsons/Bosh/Dwight. Now we are talking about a mini big 3 with role players. A big 3 that isn't as good as Miami was.
Since we are already going to overpay Bosh, might as well over pay Parsons. Not my money and you will be at the cap if we sign Bosh anyways, so Parsons is the only legit option. I'd rather pay Parsons at his max vs Bosh at his max, better value.
I don't think replacing Parsons would be a good option! He's a young stud who is just entering his prime years! The key is doing something in the 3day time frame allowed to match his contract! If Bosh keeps procrastinating in accepting Houston's offer then it should be rescinded, and the priority should shift to shoring up our bench! We can't lose Asik/Parsons/Lin and not get Lebron/Love/Melo or Bosh! This would be a disaster of an off-season! The whole point going into free agency was to add a major player, NOT make a major overhaul of your core players! This team won 54 games last year, it doesn't need an overhaul! ....... ....... .......
a role player with no elite skills is not worth the max. it doesn't matter if bosh comes or not. I rather save the cap for our current players. there is a good chance that some of them will emerge.
We need a team effort, not a big 3 effort. Miami big 3 wore down from carrying the load and the bench was ineffective. We need a team of 9 or 10 effective players that allow the best players to rest during the season and portions of the playoffs. I love the San Antonio model that allowed Duncan/Parker/Ginobili to rest during the season and forced the bench players to produce/grow. Paid big dividends in the playoffs! We need our bench to develop to another level not another big 3 max player.
I don't understand why signing Parsons is a must. He wasn't even that big of a factor in the postseason. Sign Bosh and then get Deng for lesser.
I'd still resign him. If we can get Lewis, Nelson, Daniels, and KG with our MLE and BAE, I think we'll be set.
What about Carlos Delfino? He was good for us two years ago, I think would be a serviceable replacement.
We can resign Parsons back to the contract he got after we sign Bosh because we have his Bird Rights and can exceed the cap to sign him.
