So he's an UFA now. Here comes the bidding war! Seriously, Morey's tweet sounded like Jason was leaving the sports writing arena. Too bad. There are so few good writers in the biz.
I am bittersweet over this - it was a huge boon for the Rockets to hire Jason - he made leaps and strides to the content - not just recaps- that was provided on the website. From a personal standpoint that guy was super friendly and always made you laugh. I will miss our convos at games and outside of games. From last I talked to him a few months ago I knew he was looking to advance his career - he got married and has been with the Rockets for the past 6 years - I am hoping that he is getting his opportunity to move ahead with his career. As great as he was for all of us and the Rockets - I am happy that he is able to use the time he put in Houston to move up. I wish him and his family all the best
I wish him the best. Huge loss for us as fans though. We were extremely fortunate to have a writer of Jason's caliber covering the Rockets. I don't even think Grantland has many writers on his level.
Was he the person behind the Rockets twitter account? If so, that's a double loss, the Rockets are one of the best team twitter feeds.
Jason Friedman was the best thing to ever happen to rockets.com. I've said that before, only using an "is." This is a major bummer. Good luck in the future, Jason, at whatever you do, and don't be a stranger around here.
Good luck, Jason, you will be missed. I really appreciate what Jason brought to the fans and the Rockets organization. There was not a single time that I reached out to Jason that he did not comment back. Very cool, very accessible and brought great content time and time again. Thank you Jason, stay Clutch.
sad to see Jason go, loved his articles and watching he and Ackerman's Rockets podcast. He will be missed, best of luck on his new adventure whatever that may be.
I hope for his sake he took another job advancing his career, because he seemed like he deserved/earned it. For my sake, I hope that advancement means either: a) tell all book about his time with the Rockets b) Editor in Chief Position at his new website, Friedmanland, which is like Grantland but Rockets-centric and other writers focusing on just Houston. c) choices "a" and "b" combined
Glad the thread got cleaned up. I'm under the impression he'll be posting a more formal good-bye later on, so perhaps he'll shed slightly more light on where he might be headed. It does appear he's stepping away from covering professional basketball.
