Harden didn't choose Houston exactly. He chose the money. He turned down OKC's lowball offer and got traded to Houston because Houston was willing to pay Presti the most for him.

    1. Our city isn't media dominant like NY or LA.
    2. No celebrity stars/actors/musicians like there are in NY or LA.
    3. Women here are on average not as good looking as they are in NY or LA.
    4. It's ******* Humid in Houston.

It was obvious this year's free agents were more likely to stay than in other years. This has nothing to do with our city, or do you see LA landing the top guys?
Melo, Bron, Lowry all are pretty loyal regarding their team and more or less opted out to get a bigger payday or give their time flexibility and time for other moves.

Other than Lowry, what other significant free agent we tried to sign has signed elsewhere?? You act like free agency is already over and we struck out on every one. Please stop making all these bull **** threads 3 days after free agency started! I swear your threads are the most useless threads ever. None of the super stars have signed anywhere and you come up with this trash. Wait till the pre season to post stuff like this.

    - Carmelo chooses Chicago over Houston cause it's a better fit for him. He does not want to play PF, defend Aldridge and company. Chicago has also the easiest way to the finals; also the best coaching staff. Melo does not fit with Harden, Howard, and Im convinced both of then have not been excited about adding him. And he can see that.

    - Lowry. Remember he was traded by the Rockets, and now we tell him "Kyle, we want you, but we prefer Melo, and Lebron, and Bosh ahead of you, can you wait please?" Meanwhile Raptors make him feel wanted, tell him he's the key of their project and put a good offer on the table.

Last year we were for several reasons the absolute favourites to get Howard, and we got him. If we had pushed for Lowry as our very first choice, I think he would be back in Houston. But the Rockets choosed another way.

On the other hand, have in mind we are a team that was eliminated in the 1st round, with a suspicius head coach / coaching staff and young and inmature 1st guy. If I was a player trying to win championships, I would absolutely penalize that when comparing with other contending teams.

another reason free agents don't want to sign in houston is because once signed they will get traded like the assets they are.

Free Agency is always a crap shoot, especially when you're trying to land a Star.

    1. Stars have myriad options. They can pretty much go wherever you want to you're basically just one voice of many all asking for them to join, however everyone is promising similar things to you... IE, you can contend, they will fit in, and that you can pay them well.

    2. Free agent Stars rarely leave their teams unless they're truly dissatisfied. Melo may want to leave, but the question is how badly? A star who's been on a team for a significant amount of time has a lot of local connections in terms of involvement in the community. Their children are in school and have friends. Their spouses have friends locally and potentially well established jobs. And the player has relationships with team mates, coaches and the management that they may already enjoy. This is in addition to local business interests, sponsorship relationships, extended family and friends who may have moved with them, and charitable endeavors..

    3. Home teams are generally at an advantage financially to retain their stars. They can generally match any bid you put in, and if they're a Star player they often have the ability to offer a guaranteed 5th year. That can be a LOT of money to leave on the table if the Star ends up injured.

    4. The Rockets are playing in the West. The West is way, WAY harder than the Eastern conference. Fans who discount how much a factor playing the Western conference is in terms of dissuading a free agent are underestimating the opposition, even if a team nets Lebron, Melo or Love. The Spurs, Clippers, OKC, GSW and Memphis aren't just going to roll over for another contending team and can easily upset a Championship caliber roster. People who think that adding Lebron to the Rockets will mean a free ride to the Finals every year are seriously underestimating the grind of the regular season in the West as well as the difficulty of the play offs. Add the Jordan Bulls in the current Western conference and I find it highly unlikely that they would even Reach the Finals 6/6 times let alone win 6/6 championships. 7/8 play off teams were 50+ win teams. Even #8 and #9 were 48 and 49 win teams. Yes, you only have to beat 3 of them to reach the Finals, but even getting a good seed is MUCH harder than the East. The West is faster, more athletic, and far higher scoring than the East which means that on any given night any number of teams can completely blast you out of the gym no matter how much talent you have on the roster.

This is all aside from a city vs city comparison where Houston may or may not match up favorably in various ways.

Having the means to get a Star free agent does not guarantee that you'll get one. And that's the problem. A lot of things have to align and Morey was not only highly skilled but somewhat fortunate in that he was able to land the 2 biggest FA's in back to back years. Any number of factors could have tilted Harden or Dwight to stay or go to another team entirely -- Morey was exceptional if having the right chips in place to act but we must never discount that opportunity requires some luck as well.

It's not an accident that FA's are skeptical of teams that say, "Just wait until we have cap space next year to get you some help..."

FA's know that getting that 2nd or 3rd Star Player is never a sure bet, especially when you're competing with other teams that are in a similar boat... IE potential Championship contending teams.

Honestly which of these free agents did anyone really think was going to come to Houston. Lebron is staying in Miami. He has never had the intentions of leaving. He just wants them to do work this offseason. Carmelo? Did anyone think he was going to be happy being the third wheel? He has always had a problem sharing that ball and spotlight in the past and wherever he goes he'd want it to be his team. We had a big two last season and it was still a first round exit. The Rockets aren't screaming "add a star and finals here we come" status. If were knocked off the Western Conference finals it would be one thing. None of it made any sense in the first place. It would make more sense if we were trying to get Steph Curry or Lillard. Those two love to be the outside threat and make a living off of it. I also do not understand why we are not trying to get Josh Smith out of Detroit. They do not want him anymore and he would love to play with Dwight and Harden.

Let me guess. TMac in his prime didn't choose Houston and neither did Yao. A guy named Hakeem didn't stay in Houston for a very long time either.
