It seems that each passing year, he becomes more of a joke.

We need a S/T with NY if we want to sign LeBron as well. Melo S/T would rid us of Lin's contract and should still have enough to sign LeBron.

Personally I'd rather James and Love in Houston, and Harden to Wolves.

    Question:

What is the final protection on the pick?

Some have it as 4-19, some say 10-19. The difference is huge depending on that protection.

Do we entirely lose the pick if falls between 1 and 3 or above 20?

I don't see why LeBrom would even be interested in playing with Melo as opposed to Harden.

Melo is 30 and should be declining pretty soon. Harden is almost 25 with a whole career in front of him. Lebron could probably play another 5-7 years so why would he want to play with Howard and Melo if their shelf life is 4 years max? A LeBron and Harden combo can win now and well into the future while adding more talent.

I think LeBron knows this. It just doesn't make sense for him to want to trade a younger Harden for an older Melo.

Reporters like Broussard and Simmons sure lack common sense.

Yea there is pretty much no way New York is getting anything for Carmelo.

Even if the Lebron/Melo pipedream happens, Morey just sends Harden to Philly for cap space and gets a treasure trove of future picks.

    It's protected 4-19.

Similar to the Lowry pick, if the pick lands in the top 4 or out of the top 20, then the pick is moved to next year, usually with less protection i.e. Top 2 protected as popes to top 4 protection.

I think it's 4-19 protected indefinitely and will just keep rolling until it's fulfilled.

Hate to say this, but let's hope for an injury that puts New Orleans at #5 next year. :)

Trading Harden elsewhere doesn't open up enough room to sign Melo or LeBron.

I would be surprised if we keep the pick... could be wrong though

    It's wide open....anything goes now.

    Talking about brothers...and home.

You've got the possibility of LBJ/Carmelo....

Keeping Harden....and remember..this is a key point in time where the balance of power shifts, so don't laugh.....KEVIN DURANT.

Then there is the Kyle Lowry/Kevin Love combo.....

If we are adding a player via cap room I'd rather keep that pick than keep the MLE.

That pick is how you keep the roster fresh with a good player as Dwight/FA age.

The only reason we would trade Harden, Lin and D-Mo to NYK is if Lebron said he would would (100%) come to Houston, but only if we had Melo.

Otherwise, keep Harden and sign Melo or Lebron outright.

Did we receive a TPE for Omer? Can't remember if we get one now that we r under the cap. Also, you have to waive TPE's if u r under the cap, but when is the date to waive them? If both Lin and Asik allow us to create 8.3 TPE's each, and we keep them after signing LB/Melo, then our team would get r****dedly good.

Heck, so would I! If Morey somehow managed that, good grief.

    Howard/?
    Love/Parsons
    James/Parsons/Garcia?/Covington
    ?/Daniels
    Beverley/Canaan

You have to give in order to get, so Morey would have some holes to fill. If we keep Jones and/or Donuts, so much the better. Maybe we could bring back AB to help with PG depth. We'd have a real hole at shooting guard, but could possibly sign Ray Allen. That would help a heck of a lot, to say the least, even at his age. The guy is the Tim Duncan of shooting guards. ;-)-

    Of course it does.

You can clear 18 million by moving Lin now.

Trading Harden as well clears another 14.

Rockets aren't trading Harden. Get that bad idea out of your heads.

It's 4-19. That was published in the Houston Chronicle, the Times-Picayune (NO paper), on ESPN and confirmed by Clutchfans.

So unless Everyone got it wrong, then assume that it's 4-19.

Lin is only $8.3m on the cap, not 18.

What I'm saying is also what Larvs is saying. If Lebron really wants to play with Melo, then it means that they are both willing to take pay cuts. So as someone else mentioned, we could simply move Lin out with whatever deal does that to any team without taking back salary, and then trade Harden for tons of picks without taking back salary. That opens up about $32 million or more to sign both Lebron and Melo outright with their paycuts to play together, and we have tons of picks to go with it. We could even trade DMo and TJones to get more salary if need be.

There would be no reason to get into a bidding war with Chicago over trading assets to NY in order to get Melo to pair with Lebron if they both want to play together here with Howard and will take paycuts.

I prefer not to trade Harden personally.
