Que? I think you should hit up the beach when this lady comes to visit: http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/18/us/gulf-tagged-sharks/ </3
Sorry to one up, but not really. This was my view for 8 days last week on Peter Island. The wife is at a friends beach house in Galveston today and keeps texting me asking why the water is so different. I don't believe she listens well as I'VE EXPLAINED IT TO HER 10000 TIMES!
The seaweed is absolutely awful right now in Galveston. The west end beaches are covered in seaweed to the point that it looks like the red surface of Mars, reaching a person's knees and thighs and depth. Seaweed on the Seawall beaches is stacked up to the top of the Seawall. Wave after wave of seaweed is flowing onto the beach, discoloring the water, and the Galveston Chamber of Commerce believes seaweed the size of the island itself is about to flow onshore.
it's not If you are locked in to going, one kinda cool thing for the kids is grabbing a fresh chunk of seaweed and shaking it over their cupped hands. All sorts of little shrimp and crabs shake out and even the occasional Sargassum Fish. It's a strange adaptation that these little fish look just like the weed they grow in.
You guys think Surfside is just as bad in terms of seaweed as Galveston? Was planning a day in Galveston tomorrow, but the seaweed is making me reconsider. Went to Stewart beach about a month ago enjoyed it but want to go somewhere that allows alcohol and is a little more fun.
CFers, I went out to Galveston last week and snapped a handful of pics. These were taken on the Seawall between 61st Street and the Moody Gardens street. The first 2 are from 2 PM. As you can see, there is about ~30 yards of brown/seaweed stuff and then after that the water was a beautiful blue. The last 2 pictures were taken around 7:45 PM. The beach was covered in feet of seaweed. You could smell the nastiness from a distance.

thabeet, one word. SPOILERS lulz. Seriously, those pics are monstrous, feel free to hide them behind a spoiler tag next time.
sorry about that. it seemed fine to me when i previewed the post but ill make a note for next time. btw, when you said "thabeet, one word" i thought you were going to say "BUST"
Good grief, it's not toxic waste. It's a naturally occurring part of nature. I understand that it doesn't make beachgoing ideal, but some of you guys are acting like it's an oil spill.
I visited this past weekend for a bachelor party. I have to admit it was pretty bad and 2- 4 times worst than Corpus Christi. I barely saw some sand as a drove by.. It's just piling on pretty bad.
Yikes that sea wall photo. I've been checking this thread for updates. I've been wanting to make a trip down there.
Eff off Longhorn! I die with envy every time you post about that place. Its on the bucket list for sure.
