Just to add for comparison, the best players (by RV score) in opposing teams - (yeah it's slow going I have only computed up to about 21 Nov for the starters of the teams):

    ATL - A. Horford 1340
    BKN - B. Lopez 1273
    BOS - J. Crawford 1298
    CHA - K. Walker 1299
    CHI - L. Deng 1299
    CLE - K. Irving 1282
    DAL - M. Ellis 1244
    DEN - T. Lawson 1297
    DET - B. Jennings 1311
    GSW - D. Lee 1352
    HOU - J. Harden 1331
    IND - R. Hibbert 1316
    LAC - C. Paul 1398
    LAL - P. Gasol 1283
    MEM - M. Gasol 1303
    MIA - D. Wade 1350
    MIL - K. Middleton 1274
    MIN - K. Love 1401
    NOP - A. Davis 1378
    NYK - C. Anthony 1379
    OKC - K. Durant 1308
    ORL - N. Vucevic 1335
    PHI - S. Hawes 1345
    PHX - E. Bledsoe 1338
    POR - L. Aldridge 1355
    SAC - D. Cousins 1328
    SAS - K. Leonard 1319
    TOR - D. DeRozan 1269
    UTA - G. Hayward 1310
    WAS - J. Wall 1313

Some familiar names and a few surprises - yep for the 1st 10 Games LeBron isn't really heating up yet. Best player so far seem to be K. Love - which may explain why some of the CFers are asking for him to join Rockets.....

Okay folks - only managed to catch up to about Game 15 of Houston players (yeah, I know I'm crawling, but I have a day-job to keep and kids to feed ;-)

anyways, here's how our main players RVs (note: not all of them played all 15 games due to various reasons):

    Howard - 1316

    Parsons - 1256
    Lin -1253
    Jones - 1241
    Asik - 1231
    Bev - 1217

As a rough comparison - the best RV players of the other teams (up till 15th Games for their teams are:
    ATL - Millsap - 1308

    PHX - Bledsoe - 1338
    POR - Aldrige - 1378
    SAC - Cousins - 1335
    SAS - Leonard - 1310
    TOR - DeRozan - 1258
    UTA - Hayward - 1306
    WAS - Wall - 1319

PS: for those of you wondering why some of the better known players aren't listed here (I am still tracking them - so far they haven't put up really stellar performances to be ranked as best in their teams yet - this doesn't mean they can't be later on in the season - the RV value is averaged - so if they are really stars - they will come through in the end).... sigh, it's just taking me too darn long to work on this.... but I will grind this out - thanks for your patience.

Update - sorry folks it's really slow going I am only up to about 11 Dec (or 20 games completed for all teams).

So far, here's how the players in our team that I am tracking are faring and I will also highlight starters from other teams that score above 1300 in RV(avg).

    D. Howard - 1326
    J. Harden - 1304
    C. Parsons - 1254
    J. Lin - 1249
    O. Asik - 1231
    P. Beverley - 1222
    T. Jones - 1219 (we know he has since improved a lot - it would be interesting to see by how much later when I complete my computations).
(Note: I will only track players who have started at least 5 games for Rockets)

Significant players from other teams (up to the point of my computations):
    ATL - P. Millsap (1310), A. Horford (1311)
    BKN - None above 1300
    BOS - None above 1300
    CHA - A. Jefferson (1330), K. Walker (1315)
    CHI - None above 1300
    CLE - None above 1300
    DAL - None above 1300
    DEN - None above 1300
    DET - None above 1300
    GSW - A. Iguodala (1347), D. Lee (1304), S. Curry (1372)
    IND - P. George (1331), D. West (1304), R. Hibbert (1330)
    LAC - B. Griffin (1378), C. Paul (1422)
    LAL - None above 1300
    MEM - K. Koufos (1346), M. Gasol (1324)
    MIA - L. James (1301), D. Wade (1342)
    MIL - None above 1300
    MIN - K. Love (1401)
    NOP - A. Davis (1362), J. Holiday (1313)
    NYK - C. Anthony (1344)
    OKC - K. Durant (1313), R. Westbrook (1316)
    ORL - N. Vucevic (1304), V. Oladipo (1334)
    PHI - None above 1300
    PHX - G. Dragic (1318), E. Bledsoe (1336)
    POR - L. Aldridge (1369), D. Lilard (1302)
    SAC - D. Cousins (1336)
SAS - None above 1300 (but Duncan's score is close, goes to show spurs aren't really serious yet during the regular season)
    TOR - None above 1300
    UTA - None above 1300
    WAS - J. Wall (1325)

Please bear in mind this is just scoring up to about 20 games, things have changed since about half the season has gone by, but I think this method is quite close to reality, we will know better once we have completed the season, at least we may have a matrix to determine just how much better player A compared to player B may be - and perhaps we might be able to use this to justify the trade values of some players. Cheers!

Update - yeah, I know, it's a real drag - I have only managed to compute until about 22 Dec 2013 games (and our current season is about to be over soon) - well, let's hope i can do more during the off-season.

But in the meantime, here's what I got up till about Rockets' 25th game:

RV averages (G25Av) scores of main Rocket players:

    Howard - 1323
    Harden - 1320
    Parsons - 1245
    Lin - 1238
    Beverley - 1237
    Asik - 1231
    Jones - 1205

G25Av of significant players from other teams (those scoring >1300):
    ATL - Millsap 1320, Horford 1309
    CHA - Jefferson 1327, Walker 1305
    DAL - Ellis 1304
    GSW - Curry 1399, Iguodala 1347
    IND - George 1324, Hibbert 1317
    LAC - Paul 1425, Griffin 1359
    MEM - Gasol 1324
    MIA - Wade 1346, James 1320
    MIN - Love 1381
    NOP - Davis 1358
    NYK - Anthony 1337
    OKC - Westbrook 1337, Durant 1335
    ORL - Vucevic 1317, Oladipo 1302
    PHX - Bledsoe 1344, Dragic 1317
    POR - Aldridge 1365
    SAC - Cousins 1333
    WAS - Wall 1326

It's still early days for this set of data as I have not gotten to mid-season yet - so for those of you tracking this please bear with me.

Update - okay I am slowly plodding onwards, have managed to calculate up till about 3 Jan 2014 (or all teams having completed 30 games).

Here are the RV (G30Av) socres for some Rockets players (those I am tracking):

    D. Howard -1326 (+3)
    J. Harden - 1322 (+2)
    C. Parsons - 1236 (-9)
    O. Asik - 1231 (nc)
    J. Lin - 1230 (-8)
    P. Beverley - 1230 (-7)
    T. Jones - 1187 (-18)

G30Av values for significant players (>1300) from other teams:
    ATL - P. Millsap (1319), A. Horford (1303)
    BKN - none above 1300
    BOS - none above 1300
    CHA - A. Jefferson (1327), K. Walker (1309)
    CHI - none above 1300
    CLE - none above 1300
    DAL - M. Ellis (1314)
    DEN - none above 1300
    DET - none above 1300
    GSW - A. Iguodala (1303), S. Curry (1424)
    IND - P. George (1323)
    LAC - B. Griffin (1342), C. Paul (1427)
    LAL - none above 1300
    MEM - M. Gasol (1324)
    MIA - L. James (1335), D. Wade (1348)
    MIL - none above 1300
    MIN - K. Love (1368)
    NOP - J. Holiday (1319)
    NYK - C. Anthony (1337)
    OKC - K. Durant (1355), R. Westbrook (1348)
    ORL - N. Vucevic (1330)
    PHI - M. Carter-Williams (1314)
    PHX - G. Dragic (1300), E. Bledsoe (1334)
    POR - L. Aldridge (1357)
    SAC - D. Cousins (1342)
    SAS - T. Duncan (1306)
    TOR - none above 1300
    UTA - none above 1300
    WAS - J. Wall (1315)

I know some of you have been thinking of upgrading certain positions for rockets -my take is if we are not going to get anyone who is above 1300 - then it may not be worth trying to make a move.... in the mean time I will try and ground out more calculations - it's going to be a long off-season anyways - cheers!

Really appreciate you doing this, it's fascinating to learn for instance that Lamarcus Aldridge is dramatically better than Lebron James. Keep up the statistical wizardry bro, obviously a well-designed system.

No need to be a douche and discourage the guy... It was through 30 games. You remember portlands hot start? They were tearing up teams from the east, so at that point in the season it's totally possible for LMA to have a higher average than Bron... It's not even by that many points, Jesus man

Don't worry that is only based on their performance up to 30 games, James rv improved as the season wore on. It's just damn slow going for me doing the calculations, I'm hoping I can get this done before the new season starts. Was planning to use last season as a baseline to check if our players have improved or dropped wrt their performance.

Anyways, from what I can see, star players in general should have rv above 1300
