When he is committed to playing D then he comes close to being average but his offense takes a toll and he seems to be overwhelmed doing it on both ends.

Tony Allen's defense was 2nd rate most of the year, he was anything but healthy until he came back from that long layoff

Every 1st Team Defender ranks in the top ten of nba.com’s Defensive Rating (DefRtg), even at a combo position. Chris Paul is the only one whose DefRtg is outside the top five at his designated position on the All Defensive Team. But the same can’t be said for all 2nd Team Defenders. For example, on the one hand, Roy Hibbert has the best DefRtg of all starting centers in the league this year (via nba.com; Noah is #2), so even if we don’t think he’s a better defender than Dwight Howard, at least his selection can be justified and defended with numbers. Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard DefRtgs place them in the top ten as well (via nba.com); so these choices can also be justified with numbers. Beverley’s DefRtg (via nba.com) ranks below George Hill, Tony Parker, Steph Curry, Reggie Jackson, Lance Stephenson, Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Eic Bledsoe, and John Wall (I didn’t include CP3 and Jimmy Butler since they made the team), but, there are multiple sources/statistics (non nba.com) that rank Beverley among the top five defensive PGs in the league, and, among the top ten guards in the league overall. So Beverley can aso be defended and justified with numbers. But LeBron James cannot be defended with numbers so something else is at play. There is no statistical resource that lists LeBron James as a top ten defender, or even a top twenty defender, at any of the five positions he played this season. His defensive numbers are different from the rest; e.g, inferior. In fact, they stand out like a sore thumb. For example, he is the only one with negative numbers during the regular season. I don’t have a problem with it (LeBron is the nba and arguably the most talented and popular basketball player on the planet) but is he really an elite defender? The numbers so no and my eyes say no. In previous years? Yes. But not this year.

By the way, all of the players listed are starters so maybe role players like Tony Allen aren't given the respect of a starter? Harden is my hero; one of the reasons I'm a Rocket fan I doubt even his most diehard fans believe he earned those votes.

It'll be like Tony Allen I think. As he gets older and more time in the league, refs will allow him to get away with more and more.

The honor is well deserved for PBev. Keep it up.

And those two votes to Harden must be trolling votes.

Don't understand why Bev is not first team. All Chris Paul does is flop and fall down when someone touches him.

Lol maybe the people who voted for Harden happened to watch one of those games where he played good post defense and thought he was a good defender

If you're crazy enough to poke your head in here, Bev, it's an honor that's well deserved. I look forward to more All Defensive Team honors in the future. Just stay healthy, OK? :)-

AI don't belong on the 1st team... his D is a bit overrated and past his prime... still good but not 1st team worthiness.
