You guys must be fooling around if you think JVG is going to want to be an assistant lol! Every summer the man is one of the most coveted coaches in the league and you think he's going to downgrade to being an assistant just because it's Houston. Keep dreaming!

Why r there so many foolish to discuss so,amy stupid threads?
Will JVG accept to be an assistant coach? If JVG would return to coach, a lot of teams will sign him at least $25m/5year contract, but he can accept an assistant coach, is he crazy?
U guys should have some basic knowledge!!!

If JVG isn't our HC, then I don't want him in any coaching capacity, anywhere in the League.

He is by far the greatest commentator there is out there. It's a breath of fresh air hearing him call out floppers, officials, the league - without bias.

Whereas people like Kerr try to talk their way around obviously BS calls trying to make it sound like the refs did the right thing.

JVG would explode or implode under McHale. It would be an insult to him actually to be McHale's assistant.

Unfortunately, I don't think we can get any top echelon staff while McHale is here.

JVG > Mchale. He should be the head coach.

We would be ballin if JVG was our defensive assistant. But the trick is McHail would have to give him some room to play.

He would be a fight with Mchale. Wouldn't be a good scene.

The owner can make up whatever high-sounding title he wants. So Van Gundy can be hired under an appropriately lofty-sounding title.

The title cannot have the word 'assistant' in it. The title has to show he is co-equal or senior to McHale, and answers directly to ownership/Morey through a different organizational silo entirely.

Microsoft has had its Chief Software Architect, Yahoo the office of Chief Yahoo, Jeff deserves a similar title like "Chief Defensive Systems Architect Yoda plenipotentiary extraordinaire" that recognizes his resume, pays him accordingly, and grants him genuine power.

What if Morey promises JVG that he will take over the team after next year? (hopefully mid year)

Jeff Van Gundy, an amazing center, and amazing guard-forward... Hmm. This sounds really familiar for some reason...

Why stop there? Why don't we just bring Red Auerbach back from the dead and make him lead assistant, as long as we're coming up with unrealistic scenarios to avoid McHale actually having to do his job?
